He was a decent player but too slow to stand out in the top flight.

Division 1/Championship and SPL was his level.

Djorkaeff was, IMO, the best player to have ever played for us. What made it all the sweeter is he seemed to have genuine affection for us. I still fondly remember him grinning like a Cheshire cat when being interviewed by Sky after we'd grabbed a precious late win (Okocha penalty at home to Spurs?) and the reporter asked how much the result meant to him. He just pointed to his massive cheesy grin and said "This" ... or something like that.

Hes running a restaurant in New York now.

Next time I go, im making it my mission to go and meet him.

Seems like a lifetime ago we were hearing reports of signing a 'teenage World Cup star', yet at the same time only yesterday. What a player to have, they're few and far between these days...All the be

  • Top, top bloke. A player who gave his all for the club and seems genuinely grateful to the club and the fans for everything he achieved.   And not once did he suggest we owed him anything.

  • Legend for me He'll not think so, mind Probably why I think he is and think Kevin Davies isn't Always seemed to be what he could do for us rather than what we could do for him So aye, legend   G

aye, looking at mcginlay on his prem achievements wouldn't do him much justice

but

for me, thompson flattered to decieve

bullied division 2 in the 150 points, 200 goals season

is 97/98 the one where we went down?

i thought he played for a couple of months at the back end - maybe it was a confidence thing and it came from him scoring at liverpool

never had the pace to be exceptional

Maybe it's his run towards the back end of the season that I remember, then. Recall him running the game in a win against Leicester at the Reebok. Think he scored 9 goals that season which isn't a bad return by any stretch.

Think he played there for a season or so didn't he? Red Bulls?

I seem to remember a story about him just going out and about in Bolton meeting up and befriending random fellow Armenians.

Top, top fella it seemed. Another one who sadly left in a very low key affair. I hope his kids slept okay.

if he scored 9, i'll revise my opinion, cos that is exceptional

9 in league. Arsenal (A), Spurs (A), Derby (H), Liverpool (A), Sheffield Wed (H), Leicester (H) 2 goals, Leeds (H), Palace (H).

We didn't have a single player score 9 league goals the season before last. Only Klasnic came close (8).

Shocking.

Strike me down for saying it, but so would SJM in the same vein. Thompson was a huge player in 97/98 IMO.

David, obviously. Or Chris.

Or Tom.

Must just be me but gardner is no legend average player, good servant to the club and wish him good luck.but it depends how you use the word legend for me theres other players who come before ricky, maybe if he did not have the injuries and was more consistant then fair enough.

Tommo scored 3 from open play, 3 free kicks and 3 penalties. One of those daft stats that I remember from the time, I'm sure Malcolm should be able to confirm.

Top goalscorers in the entire league were Michael Owen, Chris Sutton and Dion Dublin(!), all on 18.

Youri from the modern era and the irreplaceable Peter Thompson from the past were the finest players i've ever seen in a Wanderers shirt.

They would give me a semi on without doubt.

Youri's goal at Charlton was the cherry on the bun for the mad day out

exactly pal,the match is a bloody hindrance but it's an excuse for the lads to get together. you'd have loved prague in 2002,the one where 32 went and only 2 tried to get to to the match. even they couldn't get in  Carlos will whip up a pic if you ask him nicely

Fair play to Ricky he was pretty patient with the interviewer, must have been asked the same question 3 times and he had a plane to catch in a few hours!

Loved his debut, drove a car load down to that game. Plenty of great memories his goal at Munich as a stand out all be it in the latter end of his career. Thought he was unbelievable for a spell a left back under BSA
