Bwfc Footage From The Itn Archives

ITN is in the process of digitising their archive of old news reports and uploading it to their site. There's a lot of BWFC related stuff on there including preview clips in some cases. Here's a few examples.

(Click 'PLAY CLIP' button under preview and then click arrows at top right of clip to view full screen)

Still to come. League Cup semi-final at Burnden 1977:

... and the promotion game at Ewood Park 1978:

The shot lists should give you some idea of what the packages include.

Is she still alive? Hope she is, part of BWFC folklore.

Anyone remember Phillis from chorley?

She,similar to Florence and Big Ruth, went to every game with her son Simon home and away.

Hope she's stil alive but I've not seen her since I was a kid I don't think.

I remember Phillis...lovely woman, thought she had a son called Thomas who went and joined the army...she would come and watch us play in Astley park when your dad ran the Supporters Club team...a Wanderer through and through

That's right not Simon it was Thomas...lovely chap.

Think Phillis helped my dad run the supporters club in the 70's,she was also in the mini bus that flipped over on the way home from an away game.

How nobody died in that ill never know.

The beginning of the decline that documentary I'm sure we'd be still up there without the shock waves of that programme.

My theory about that programme was that the build-up was all aimed at Redknapp, but he got lawyers stuck into the BBC and they laid off, and Allardyce got the main flak. He had been unconcerned and his focus was on team affairs.

The editing of the programme was disgracefully unethical. Answers shown were not always given to the questions just shown, so, while the flavour of the interviews may have been conveyed, the programme overall was less than fair comment.

That's opinion not fact Malc. Unless you have seen the unedited footage obviously.

Allardyce certainly never complained about any of his, or more pertinently his son's, comments being taken out of context.

No legal action from the Allardyces for fear of more dodgy stuff being made public IMO.

Talking of great fans from way back when......I see Gerald (Ged) around Farnworth when I come home, he now lives in sheltered accommodation in Lime street, but does anyone know what happened to Graham ? hopefully he is still with us, .neither of them made the transition up to the Reebok...but through the 60's and 70's they were always on the Supporters Club coaches and never missed a game

Graham did make it too the Reebok saw him in the east lower on a few occasions but the last time was probably 5-6 years ago he still looked the same as he did back in the 70s.

Spoke to Ged about 7-8 years ago and he said that he did not go anymore spent his money on going to rockabilly events all over the country.
