Pie Eatersand Uefa Cup

Can someone explain why, Spurs who finished 5th in the premiership and Swansea who finished 8th have entered the uefa cup before little Wigan who won the FA cup and got relegated.

Because Wigan actually won something to qualify.

Spurs & Swansea didn't.

Half right!

Half right!

Swansea won a cup too, I know.

But the original post never mentioned that!

Yes, forgot that Swansea won a cup. So I suppose winning the FA Cup is rated better than winning the League Cup. Still doesn't seem right somehow.

The FA Cup Winners take precedence and go directly into the Group Stage for the leading 6 countries by coefficient.

The fifth placed league team come next and start in the fourth qualifying ('playoff') round, but if the FA Cup Winners are in the Champions' League, the fifth placers get the Group stage place.

The league cup winners get the third qualifying round place.

If any of the FA Cup final or league cup winning teams are qualified for the Champions' League extra places go to sixth, and then seventh, in the league.

If the FA Cup runners-up qualify because the winners are in the CL, they take the lowest place and the others move up.

The FA Cup winners have always been the top rated team (as the Cup  Winners Cup was merged into the UEFA Cup).

It only in the last couple of seasons that different entry rounds have applied to each 'English' qualifier.

So if Wigan had lost the FA Cup final they would have started in round 3, Swansea in round 4 and Spurs in the group stage.

This is why it was a shrewd move by Dougie to get out of the league cup on Tuesday :)

Here's hoping it's going to be shit, expensive, distracting and they get knocked out at the group stage then get dragged into a relegation battle...And I hope the Achy Breaky (old) Fart keeps reinvesting faith time and time again in that clueless prick...

Forest away at Wigan today are a decent price at 2/1

Was delighted yesterday to see that all six Europe League matchdays are now actually occupied by a match. Until recently, there were 5 teams in a group, so there were four matches to play. Now there are four teams and six matches to play with each side playing each other home and away. That means Wigan will definitely have a fixture in the midweek before they play us in mid December. Let's hope Coyle wants to go "toe to toe" with whoever they are playing.

My only worry is that trick seemed to work well for Coyle at Burnley. When things are going well he can get that extra 10% out of them. Lets hope they start bad
