Good debate on talksport at the minute, some coaching guy is on the Brazil decrying the lack of technical skills in UK players. Cites that reason as to why the english 18- 23 year old are not playing for their first teams and that there are foreigners in their places, and putting them in a B league will not fix this.

Surely the problem there is not technical ability, it's size.

Homer, point is that over time, those smaller kids will become better, as they are getting the game-time to grow, and this will hopefully become more common, rather than 'give it the big lad'.

They won't lose week in week out but they can get beat by technically weaker players who are physically stronger but believe it or not kids are not that bothered about losing 2 minutes after losing a game there laughing and joking not in the slightest worried while us coaches are pissed off all weekend.

Apparently Luke Shaw got released from Arsenals academy and then passed up by Chelsea and Fulham because he was too small. Don't know if that's true or fairytale but it adds strength to Mounts argument. Southampton profitted by having a different outlook and great set up

cant be arsed going into it now, but i do not believe the technical ability is the problem. i think its an excuse that raises its head every couple of years.

Have you ever pondered why any UK international team cannot keep the ball for more than 30 seconds in a big game? Its because they cannot trap, pass or move properly. I have been watching our national team fail because of this for over 40 years.

according to wiki, he was at a chelsea development centre when he was 8 (he's from kingston) but wasn't offered a deal so went to southampton
