June 30, 201412 yr After learning about The Smyths in the Glastonbury thread, I've gone on a bit of a tribute band wander. These yanks don't half do a good Joy Division cover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYMxmtrfbmU Anyway, what's your opinion on tribute bands? If they're an actual band (rather than some cunt in a wig with a backing track), and they're copying a band that don't exist any more, providing they do it well, I think they're fucking brilliant.
June 30, 201412 yr I've been to see the Australian pink floyd, off the wall,Brit Floyd and they are belting nights. The last one being a sell out gig at the MEN for Austrialian Floyd. (They only had half of it) Folk my age never had to chance to see the real thing and my old man certainly won't get the chance again so it's a case of having to make do with imitations. Saw the complete stone roses in Blackpool a few years ago. They were alright too.
June 30, 201412 yr Agree I wouldn't go watching a tribute band for someone who is still knocking about/alive Only one I've been to see is Doors Alive, twice, and they were v good
June 30, 201412 yr My fella refuses to watch them, but when New Order split (one of the many times), at least I got to hear my favourite songs played live.
June 30, 201412 yr I took my lad to watch aussie floyd a few years ago. As gonzo says no way he'd get to see the original. Still riles that I queued up for The Floyd in '74, got into The Palace box office but a mate who should have been in the queue before me had the ticket money so missed out. Ah the days before f5 ing multiple laptops to get tickets! My mates broke in on the night and after being chased through corridors ended up at the front. Was also the night the plaster started falling off the walls which led to the place being closed. Saw guns 2 roses in Exmouth Pavilion few years ago whilst on holiday. Enjoyable night and the only time at a gig I've had a table in front of me to put my beer on.

June 30, 201412 yr I'd watch the Abba one, but no others When Erasure did their 'Abba-Esque' tribute, Bjorn Again released 'Erasure-Ish'.
June 30, 201412 yr Cracking rod Stewart my mate has on in his pubs There's one in fleetwood called Cod Stewart. Seriously
June 30, 201412 yr Author Abba and Rod Stewart? Exactly the type of tribute acts I can't stand. Each to their own.
June 30, 201412 yr No idea if they're any good, but I thought "Arse" was a good name for the "Elbow" tribute band.
June 30, 201412 yr The parrots. Japanese Beatles tribute supporting Arctics at LCCC Ruv ruv me do. Top! Edited June 30, 201412 yr by stevieb
June 30, 201412 yr Author The parrots. Japanese Beatles tribute supporting Arctics at LCCC Ruv ruv me do. Top! Saw them at The Matthew Street Festival a few years back. Fucking spot on, apart from the r's and l's. Actually, I've just remembered I was at that Arctic Monkeys gig too. So I've seen them twice. Don't remember much of it though. Apart from falling in love with Amy Winehouse. I didn't know what all the fuss was about beforehand, but fucking hell, I was converted. Fell properly head over heels for her in that little yellow dress. I'll more than likely get some stick for that, but fuck em. Edited June 30, 201412 yr by Cheese
