Audley end is Local to me, I'll have to look into it, got two little ones of my own to entertain. Oh for the days where you just turfed your kids out on the street until tea time.

If you are NT Wimpole Hall is nearby but you need to pay a bit extra for the farm.

I've been in the National Gallery in London 3 or 4 times in the last year, & also once each in the National Portrait  Gallery & the Tate Modern, neither of which i liked. ..& in Bolton Museum once, to see Nat's collection.

 

The Football Museum in Manc, the National Railway Museum & the Nordic Centre in York, & obviously, the Lawnmower Museum in Southport, are on my to do list.

 

I enjoy a look round, but after about half an hour my attention tends to wander.

I honestly went in with an open mind, but when we saw a cup & saucer on a shelf & couldn't decide whether it was an exhibit or not, we decided that there was some pretentious bollocks in there.

MIMA in Middlesbrough was really good and had a fantastic Anish Kapoor exhibit on when we went about 3yrs ago.

 

I really liked the Temenos sculpture he designed by the transporter bridge.

I honestly went in with an open mind, but when we saw a cup & saucer on a shelf & couldn't decide whether it was an exhibit or not, we decided that there was some pretentious bollocks in there.

Nah, a lot of it can be laughed at but then I love post modernist stuff, my other half likes turn of the century Bauhaus and I find that a bit difficult. The Paul Klee exhibition was great though.

Me and a couple of mates took all our kids to the imperial war museum. There was about six 3 and 4 year olds. We walk into that big hall, it goes pitch black and all these explosions ring out. Cue 6 kid legging it about shitting themselves. We rounded them up got them into the cafe and they sat there, shellshocked, silently weeping into their quavers.

In the panoply of stupid things that generally leave your keyboard, that is the worst fishing trip in the world (and if it isn't then you really are the dolt of the board)

Maybe they open it especially for you when you go, or maybe you've just bought into the hype. Either way if you're there to see what's on show, rather than just tick it off the 'culture' part of your to do list, then you're wasting your time. Unless of course you're there to see tourists and bored school kids.

just remembered I also went to the Guggenheim in Bilbao

 

3 floors - 1 was v good, they had this selection of steel sculptues you could walk round that fucked with your perception of space and movement

 

 

 

1 was alright, just paintings and that

 

outside they had this cool spider and a few other bits and they do some smoke effect a few times a day, looks good

John Lennon first met Yoko Ono over that exhibit. He climbed the ladder and looked at the word on the ceiling panel through the magnifying glass. It said 'Yes'. If it had said 'No', he claimed he would have left... and the rest is history.

Now I know you're a wind up. No one can really be that stupid. Mind, you I generally make you the exception.

Is it all of the 66k works on display that you don't like, or just one or two? 

 

Or perhaps their online collection is also just a ton of hype which has over 600k visitors per month on average? And actually the digital work being done there is breaking new ground in the digital marketing sphere, not just the arts. Hell, they won a BAFTA for technical innovation. There's TateShots have been downloaded over 2 million times (short films about the work) 

 

So over the past year you see no worth whatsoever in any of the exhibitions on there ever? At the moment, Matisse perhaps? Load of paper cutting I suppose? Or maybe Lichtenstein - I take it you are aware of at least what his stuff looks like? Fairly popular exhibition that one; over 315k visitors in 13 weeks. I take it they also bought into the hype, or maybe it just opened when they were there as well. 

 

You have to be a wind up, saying you don't like certain art is perfectly normal - no one can like everything that's put on; and nor should they. But to say that one of the greatest success stories (in terms or attendance, range of work show and engagement both locally, regionally and internationally) in not only the arts but in Britain overall since it opened 14 years ago, is just hype and full of foreign tourists, pretentious metro-centric arts types or school kids just plain silly, and a little bit ignorant.

Indeed, I saw some of her work in Miro Museum and really like it, but as I say I like that sort of stuff and the Fluxus movement, along with Dada
