What's the point? More one-sided than Clayton Powis/Anewman death match.

  • Hard bastards play rugby league.   People who think they are hard bastards play rugby union.

Great result for Saints who've half a team out injured. The big games come in 2 weeks time

I've decded to ditch Salford Red Devils as my RL team. They are shitter than shit. Probably support Wigan next season.

Why the fuck did Leigh go for the name Centurions? It's a shit name and to the best of my knowledge the Roman Infantry never came to Lee.

Play offs are bollocks

6 months of running into brick walls and you get a silver plate

It's like the one Virginia wade got

And it means nowt anyway

Why not just restrict it to Leeds Wigan saints and Warrington knocking shit out of each other home and away

Indeed

Why not fuck the prem off and have a league for Chelsea City Liverpool and arsenal.

I saw something on the news the other day, I think Wigan had absolutely murdered somebody. I was shocked at how small the cord look, it looked like only about 8000 were in the ground. I thought Wigan was a Rugby town and they got 25K each week.

Big game for Widnes today....could be an abolsute disgrace of a score line or we could whip em. the only guarantee is it will be carnage in warrignton town center haha

Btw, this was a serious question. Always some story or reason behind adopted names.

to celebrate the time they got over 100 fans to a game..... :shiftyninja:

Both times?

It was as part of us being a founder member in 1895, with the name change happening in 1995. At least a slight bit of reasoning rather than picking a random animal.

In olden days the top four plsayed off for the league title.

Why? Because the teams did not all meet each other, so that the league table was not so definitive as in football.

For example, in the 1950s there were 30 teams in the league, 16 from Yorkshire. So one Yorkshire team switched to join the Lancashire and Cumberland clubs and those groups of 15 played each other (28 matches for the Lancs or Yorks League). In addition the top 5 L/Y clubs in the overall league table from the previous season played their 5 counterparts, the middle 5s met each other, and so did the bottom 5s, giving each club a total of 38 fixtures, but not balanced.

So in 1952-53 St Helens played against Keighley, Castleford, Bramley, Wakefield Trinity and Huddersfield - clearly not the strongest Yorkshire clubs. Strangely enough they played Huddersfield at home in the SF, winning 46-0, but they had lost at home to them in the regular season match, and drawn away - the only away point they dropped all season.

Food for thought. If the crackpot idea of the Premier League playing an extra match in New York, Doha or wherever comes about the league table will also be unbalanced and would need a play-off system for fairness.

Its still a crap name to pick. Sporting teams add-on names are a pet hate of mine. The two worst sort are picking a animal that has no link to the team or area. The other is the second name starting with the same letter as the team. Lancashire Lightning being a classic example.

For a spell we were the Leigh bears but got rid of it, not because it made us sound like a bunch of homosexuals with gruff sexual fetishes but because it was shit.

Never really liked the centurions tag but understand it from a marketing tool now.

I suppose professional sport needs money

Basically the season ticket holders have to pay for the play-off games. All the games are on TV. And so they sit at home and watch it for free.

Crazy, I know, but that's how my business partner explained it to me. He, however, did get a ticket for Saints last night. But he reckoned the Huddersfield fans travelling to Wigan on a Thursday night would be pretty sparse and it was.

Pity as the play-offs are described as "the business end of the season".... and yet they pull the worst crowds!

I guess Sky has both enhanced the sport but affected the crowds.... sounds familiar.

They even drove the switch from winter to summer. Rugby by its nature is a winter sport - I'd rather play in mud than on bonehard dry summer pitches.

Leeds have lost, happy days

Leeds have lost, happy days

Does that mean they are out?

yes. leeds and widnes eliminated today

catalans will go to huddersfield, warrington to castleford in the next round of eliminators

If Cas beats Warrington - then it's probable that Saints will choose to play them again.... After beating them 41-0 last night! Bonkers!
