Russians have some dodgy chemical labs hidden in the woods near Moscow doctoring all the test results apparently. Some Turkish Runner bird that came second in 15,000m was offered the chance to pay £300k to cover her tracks or face an 8 year ban. How long before the net closes on some of ours??

November 9, 201510 yr I watched the WADA press conference on t'interweb. The majority of journalists' questions from the floor were from British media. The near certainty is that next week a blanket ban will imposed on the Russian Athletics Federation. The drug testing centre in Moscow is losing its licence, and until a new centre is certified tests of Russian athletes will all be carried out in other countries. The Minister of Sport was given advance notice of what was likely to happen and has two options. Either roll up his sleeves and get stuck into the required reforms, or protest that Russia is being unfairly singled out. Sadly, it seems likely that he is taking the latter path. Turkey's problems were alluded to, and there was a swipe at Kenya's lack of action in setting up adequate internal testing.

(Rather like the good old USA in the 1980s, when they placed freedom of the individual above drug-test penalties. Failure of a test at the US Olympic Trials did not lead to banishment {as it would nowadays}, but receiving advice on how to ensure tests were not failed at the Games.) The probability is that, although the ban will be imposed, it could be lifted in time for Rio if Russia really does take adequate concerted action. However, they are not seeming to be setting out quickly to put their house in order. And if they really do, cynics will say that the ban was always going to be lifted. I'm trying to see a football comparison. Can you imagine if a "superclub" connived with one of its players to avoid a random test? Would they be expelled from the league? Of course they would. Now what was I saying about Rio?
