Blair has to take the most blame for sending our troops into Iraq for no good reason, so I can give you that one.

I'll take that one.ย

Just to be clear

You don't think we should be contributing a single penny to Ukraine, or any other existing conflict.

That's not a question, that's a summary of your post, by the way.

Interesting stand.

I've always been against all nations, east and west, sending aid, particularly weapons to the eastern Ukraine... to me this leads to continuation of the conflict and creates a situation where the "infection" can spread globally... we need to keep it localised in the Donbasย  and that way easier to resolve.

Russia would absolutely fucking steamroller the Ukrainians if they had no help.

By now, Ukraine would have likely been under russian control.

At what point do you stand up to the likes of Putin? Or do you just not think we should at all?

As I recall it, it went to a Parliamentary vote.

Labour had a Commons majority of 160-ish, but quite a few of their MPs voted against the war as did the LibDems, yet the motion was carried with a majority of around 270, so I still don't believe it's all on Labour's shoulders.

I do, of course, apologise for bringing some facts to the table.

Talking of facts, didn't Labour produce the "dodgy dossier" leading to the cross party majority?

So you'd be ok if Putin was sending drones to Switzerland, Chechia etc?

No Czechia and Switzerland are firmly in the western bloc, unfortunately for Ukraine they are direct neighbours to a more powerful and authoritarian regime governed by an ex-secret policeman and should behave accordingly.

So are Finland & Norway, surely you wouldn't let them lovely folk be rolled over would you?

They are NATO members and therefore are entitled to protection from their fellow members.

Following on from whether Switzerland and Czechia should be defended by their surrounding NATO neighbours, I would include the Republic of Ireland also, who aren't NATO

Behaving accordingly - being ok with letting that neighbour roll its tanks in and take all its land?

Just a realist at the end of the day. diplomacy wasn't seriously attempted initially. There were lots of missed opportunities which, several years later have resulted in Ukraine losing territory

To be honest, I wouldn't give that much of a fuck if we just put the iron curtain back up, and let Russia have the lot back. If it meant stability in our energy prices and an end to all this fucking about

If i was in charge of a colony of elks living next to a bear pit I'd tread very carefully

Heaven forbid any former Soviet countries try and move away from mother Russia. But even when they aren't and are just seeking their own path under a guarantee from the US and the UK (remember that Dimron?) they should somehow still be subservient to a former communist bloc in Putin's Russia.

Would you just let the bears walk in and eat the elks?

Or would you defend yourself as best you could to stop that happening?

Or to put it another way, would you bend over and gape your arsehole so Putin could pop his little Cossack widgie into it?

The non proliferation treaty was necessary and thankfully Ukraine honoured it... it does still mean that Russia cannot legitamely attack Ukraine with nukes.

It has been argued thatย  the Budapest Memorandum is not an international treaty as such but there is a case that Russia has breached it, but should we go to war over this?

At the end of the day we are where we are and we need to find a final settlement rather than continuing on the current path... I agree with Trump's actions, at the end of the day he is the only one with the guts to meet and talk with Putin.

I would trade with the bears... they prefer berries, veg and fruits... stay friendly

But the bears want to walk in and eat the elks.

Thats the point you seem to be missing with this frankly nonsensical metaphor.

If I wanted to annex half your garden, would you let me?

I don't think we should go to war with Russia, no.

But I also don't think Putin's expansionist ideology should be tolerated either.

You have still not answered why a sovereign nation shouldn't be allowed to make it's own path post soviet rule.

Seems Witikoff is another Putin apologist who takes Russian propaganda at face value so you aren't alone.
