April 30, 201610 yr A girl I went to school with is always banging out about one thing or another, enraged and offended by everything and everyone. Anyway she posted this about her gender on FB the other week. I haven't a fucking clue what she's on about. If anybody can decipher this.. My experience of coming out as agender literally confirmed all the (trans/queer community based) things that prevented me from coming out in the first place- there is a standard of transness and being trans "enough" and I don't meet it. I am constantly asked for cis opinions and treated as cis by people who would prefer I was so they had a nice working class cis woman to shout at/humiliate/educate.- my (luckily minimal) dysphoria is ignored, miscategorised or outright denied.- there is a transnormative way to perform non-binary genders that I cannot attain/that don't correlate with my identity. I don't want to cut my hair short and bind, but unless I do then I'm not trans- I am presumed to owe my peers a transformation, I am not allowed to occupy an (admittedly privileged) space where both my assigned gender and discovered genders exist parallel to one another, equally validly.- until I transform the way I signal my identity in a way that pleases people with power in queer/trans communities I am excluded from any platform discussing gender (even my own). This may include not being invited to events or being spoken over and often the privileging of butch/androgynous cis women's opinions (on trans issues) over mine. - as in every gendered space, masculinity shouts the loudest and those whose presentations and identities are seen to be most closely aligned with it are the only ones who matter. - my gender identity isn't useful or valuable to any trans movement because it is not masculine and cannot be tokenised

Feel free to 'identify' with whatever you want but gender is defined and static. For me there is no difference between people in this article and me suddenly telling everybody that I identify as a black African and expecting people to conform to the new vision of how I saw myself.
