September 18, 20169 yr If you want to listen to 'old skool' type reggae then take heed of everything Bolty said, listen to the excellent Trojan compilations as Bigtoe mentions, buy soundtrack album The Harder they Come' by Jimmy Cliff and others and if you don't like any of the above have a good look at yourself and realise that you don't actually like music basically! If you do like it, anything involving Lee 'Scratch' Perry as a producer or artist, anything by Culture, Gregory Isaacs, Third World should get you started, as far as British reggae is concerned then 'Handsworth Revolution' by Birminghams excellent Steel Pulse is pretty much essential. Enjoy! He's reet and along with Bigtoes recommendation, any Trojan compilation is a blinding start. Tighten Up volumes 1 to 6 should do it. You don't need owt else except plenty of stamina. September 20, 20169 yr As students we got posted a Desmond dekker cd through our door one weekend with a note saying "just returning this". Wasn't any of ours but we all love a bit of DD now. Would love to get more into reggae but as a white bloke who works in insurance I don't think I'd fit in.

Would love to get more into reggae but as a white bloke who works in insurance I don't think I'd fit in. Plenty of us white blokes were seen at events playing purely Bluebeat, Ska and Reggae in the late sixties and 70's mate. Get thisen a Jaytex, a pork pie hat and some Royals and you'll be one of the crowd. Got to look sharp when them rude boys are around or you'd really not fit in.
