I have a wood burning stove in the single story extension at the back of the house.

With the door open heat does flow into the front room, but from there little transfers to the upstairs.

The result is a sauna-esque room with cold bedrooms.

Is it possible to have some sort of ducting through what was originally the outside wall (now the inner wall of the backroom) to conduct warm air to the upstairs (landing?).

Does anyone know of possible solutions.

Here you go R.......simply boot a hole in the wall and then insert "heat follow this way" stickers on, with arrows pointing upwards......it's essential to point the arrows upwards.

Depends how you ventilate and avoid death in your sleep. These elf n safety nazis are a bit strict on shit like that.

Venting to distribute the heat elsewhere means a reduction of the draw up the flue which means carbon monoxide everywhere.

 

Can you not replace the existing burner for one with a back boiler, plumb in some extra radiators running off it?

Interesting about venting. Its a 5kw rated jog and thus doesn't need an air brick.

Presumably putting one in would help the Nazis happy.

It's not some over-zealous measure imo, I looked into it once (venting) for a room in an isolated annex that has a burner that's neither use nor ornament for heating owt but that room.

 

Even with an airbrick, if any venting to colder areas is competing with the flue for 'draw' there will be a c02 build-up in the burner room (and elsewhere)...

 

I was told it really wasn't advisable by someone who had nothing to gain by advising me so. He also said the effect of such a system (regarding distributing the heat and disregarding safety) would be negligble.

I thought that, I also thought I'd solve the problem of my Roman style heat spreader working negligbly by adding a bathroom extractor fan into the mix, get the hot air sucked out of the feeder room more efficiently and sent elsewhere.

 

What could possibly go wrong?

 

Glibness aside, there's been cases of solid fuel c02 deaths from sommat as innocuous as a crisp bag floating into a flue...

 

Some security bloke died in a Portacabin in (edit) Leigh recently after cobbling together a brazier to keep warm. Folk wouldn't piss about with gas so...

Put that 5kw heat to good use

 

Get a buffer store tank (if you have room) and you'll save a fair bit on gas bills - could use it for your central heating.

It's definitely possible, the ex-inlaws did it at their house years ago.  I don't know the technicalities.  I would go and get some advice from the nearest supplier.

Stuv make a boiler which has vents which can run ducts into other rooms or as has been mentioned previously a back boiler with radiators on it is the other option. If you have a gas boiler already and unless you have free supply of seasoned wood it's not going to be worth it economically.

I do have a free supply of wood- that's one good thing.

It has made a big difference to my gas bill already, just like to distribute the heat better.
