November 27, 20169 yr He stood up to a more powerful continental neighbour and locked up homosexuals, I thought you would have been an admirer. Suggest you give up thinking then.
November 27, 20169 yr I went to Cuba 12 years ago, just before Fidel Castro handed power over to his brother Raul. I loved the place and the people. I wonder if anything will actually change now Fidel has died....
November 27, 20169 yr It's hard to judge due to 'el bloqueo'. But you could argue the Americans are equally to blame for the poverty experienced there. If that gets lifted then I agree - better times could be ahead for the people of Cuba. It could improve, especially if a goodly number return from abroad with their wealth and skills If the Revolution was so great; how come 15% of the country emigrated? (many desperately) I didn't say it was great. But in answer to your question, I don't know - I'd have to read up on it. I'm not saying you did. Many people do seem to claim how wonderful he and Cuba was, including the usual suspects! (Corbyn, Livingstone)

He wasn't universally wonderful or universally terrible for the people of Cuba. He was an incredible chap though who lived an extraordinary life.

He was an incredible chap though who lived an extraordinary life. Interesting this- saw a brief report: they've a tremendous health care system for all, yet on the other hand many people are poor. Depends on what you use to measure quality of life.
