November 26, 20169 yr His mate Che Guevera's granddaughter is a big campaigner for PETA, a cause close to all our hearts here at WW You may have missed it, so here's a memory jog:
November 26, 20169 yr Fair play to him lasted what seems forever must have had some life think I'll get a book on him that should be an interesting read.
November 26, 20169 yr Just need Kirk Douglas and Brucey to win the dead pool. I've had Castro in it for about 7 years straight
November 26, 20169 yr Poor form that BD. Not sure, does everyone deserve a RIP? I have been to Cuba and seen the poverty of those outside of Havana.
November 26, 20169 yr Poor form that BD. Well I was a bit torn It isn't nice to "not RIP", but what did he do for his people and the world? I'm not a fan of the soviet-style communism he put his people through over 50 or more years
November 27, 20169 yr Good riddance. Starved the majority of his people for decades and I can't wait for the records of executions and torture to come out. Nicely timed for a Trump redevelopment of Havana. Better dead than red.
November 27, 20169 yr Just talking about him on the Andrew Marr show Seems many Cuban's preferred him to the previousAmerican backed regime who enslaved many Cuban's Also compared him to General Pinochet & the Saudi King who died last year (as Buckingham palace flew flags at half mast) I'm not at all great on my Cuban history but can't help but conclude that it's another case of failed US foreign policy pushing Cuba towards Russia / communism rather then potentially working with them early on after the revolution Edited November 27, 20169 yr by birch-chorley
November 27, 20169 yr Not sure, does everyone deserve a RIP? I have been to Cuba and seen the poverty of those outside of Havana.Eh? All the folk with money in Cuba are the farmers who are free to sell what they produce over a set quota on the open market. Sure it is not Western Europe but I have seen far, far more poverty elsewhere. People have enough money to drive classic American cars :-) If you want to see poverty travel to the next islands along, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic/Haiti. Then again if you do that you would probably be robbed, that doesn't happen in Cuba. Edited November 27, 20169 yr by Whites man

The slavery of poverty for half a century has been far worse. The Cubans celebrating in Florida know the score. Just watch Cuba boom over the next couple of decades.

Just watch Cuba boom over the next couple of decades. It's hard to judge due to 'el bloqueo'. But you could argue the Americans are equally to blame for the poverty experienced there. If that gets lifted then I agree - better times could be ahead for the people of Cuba.
