Away Fan Guide - Beautiful Down Town Bramall Lane

I see Visitingblade has given you a few rough pointers however I thought I would give you a few more, haven't taken the team to read through the whole of the previous thread therefore some may have been touched upon however for what it is worth......

Parking:-

Your arrival time in Sheffield will dictate parking options. Bare in mind that we are based on the outer fringes of the City Centre in quite a populated area, rows of terraced houses, student buildings and commercial buildings surround the ground and as you can imagine it will be near impossible to get street parking before midday....."The early bird, catches the worm" springs to mind, get down nice and early and take in the atmosphere and a bit of grub and you will most probably land yourself a bit of street parking. (Shown in red)

As VB mentioned, you do have some parking over towards decathlon (1) and you also have a couple of paid car parks down towards the ring road which are about a 5-10 minute walk away (2&3), these might suit those of you who like a working mans club as I will mention below.....Again though, I would still be aiming to get down there around midday because parking fills up fast at BDTBL and with a big attendance expected....even more so.

Food and drink:-

MY CHOICE - We all love a Wetherspoons don't we?.....And we are fortunate enough to have quite a new one that has bit put up not too far away from the away end....even better for you guys, it is away fan friendly and a regular drop in this season for travelling fans (1). Obviously with spoons you get the usual menu for those fancying a bit of snap......This place is becoming ever popular like I said therefore if you want snap that is served quickly....get in there pre 1pm.........Again the atmosphere is pretty friendly, with plenty of banter and believe it or not singing at the moment because we are generally very happy fans.

As I touched upon above.....down by the ring road (Queens Road) you will find The Queens Social Club.....This has become a popular one over the years because you have early bird parking (2&3) next door and opposite, cheap enough booze, a McDonalds and KFC within walking distance and round the corner another boozer (The Royal Standard)......Which is generally away fan friendly.

You will find that the majority of fans who are travelling by train will probably stay with stumbling distance of the train station (TS).....There are a few decent away fan boozers down that way and with it only being a 10-15 minute walk up to the ground, most prefer it.

A very decent boozer can be found at the train station itself (The Sheffield Tap).....loads of selection on tap, both premium lagers and craft ales....and shed loads of bottled stuff from all over europe......Other pubs around the station include the showroom bar (below the cinema), The Howard and The Rutland (Decent chip butty).

On the away end itself you will find The Cricketers.......This has notoriously been a home pub for as long as I remember however it has been taken over in recent years and has a fine selection of ales therefore it is now popular with both sets of fans.....With this one I would say get in early and whilst bother is far from common, it can get a tad "giddy" at times and again with a big attendance on the cards.....I might be tempted to advise to look at Wetherspoons or down by the station instead if you are ok with the 15 minute walk.

Finally a few things...........

I see that you lot think that we have pulled some sort of fast one with the tickets?....This couldn't be further from the truth!

We sold pretty much all of our allocation against Scunthorpe with the exception of a handful and this weekends attendance is expected to be another decent one if not bigger......The only empty end at the lane last week was the away end due to an average Scunthorpe take up and an annoying police segregation.

I suppose considering a slow uptake from your fans and our fantastic support last week, it makes very sound business sense to pull the tickets back and try and offer them to home fans.

Secondly.................

It's a game of football ain't it and whilst I hope the travelling fans have a decent drinking sesh, a good day out and a safe Journey to and from Bolton......I wish you the worst of luck on the pitch  . I'm chuffed that you have sold Clough because he was lively and a real threat....You have turned us over twice this season allbeit run close twice and I honestly think you will see a completely different Sheffield United team this time out!.......We are now looking the best we have looked in a long while and if we turn up like we did against Scunthorpe in the first half....then you best hope that your back four are on form.........We are a completely different outfit from that opening fixture and the cup game was a weakened team.

Finally.........

Gary Madine?..........Need I say too much? Never liked this bloke, has a reputation for his off pitch antics (Scrapping in bars around Sheffield) whilst with our swill munching neighbours....Had his run ins with the law and quite frankly this latest tweet shows what he's all about doesn't it?....Better off without him!

For what it's worth I don't think it will do anything but spur billy on and I wouldn't be surprised if he knocks one in and has a good laugh at Madine's expense.

Allocation should of been 2200 with the possibility of more.

Im sure madine is shitting himself at the thought of sharp laughing at him

Thanks for the info. How very civilised.

All sounds a bit different to our gaff.

This Gary Madine reputation thing makes me piss. He's without doubt the biggest softest mard arse weak as piss centre forward that's pulled on the white shirt in Bolton Wanderers history.

I'll back him all the way on Saturday like, but folk having him down as some kind of trouble causing tough nut is ridiculous. Hes soft as shit.

Too old and too long in the tooth to get dragged into an argument over football.....I didn't come on here to rub backs up, I came on here to give a few tips and pointers to your fans. All I am doing is pointing out the obvious regarding tickets.

The rules state that we are obliged to provide away teams with a minimum of 2000 tickets. We initially gave you lot the opportunity to bring more however again in line with rules and regulations, these were made available on a sale or return basis....We completely reserve our right to recall any tickets above our obligation should we deem it sound business sense to do so. In this case, demand was high last week as we pretty much sold out all home areas.....the same if not better is expected this week therefore the club have recalled the lower tier tickets in order to offer them to our fans.

Yep.. my point still stands though. Only my opinion of course :)

His reputation comes from his time in Sheffield gonzo.

He was a regular in the bars and clubs down town on a weekend and often found himself in bother and scuffles. Obvious he had the two charges of assault and GBH that happened within weeks of eachother in bars in Sheffield,  then rumours of a glassing as well in a bar in Sheffield (which I can't say whether it is right or not).....These on the back of another scrap in a boozer in Carlisle prior to this........Then there are other things such as driving bans and filming on phones whilst in a car during ban and everything else...

Not the best reputation is it mate you have to agree?.........And look at this last video?......If he was banging in a load more goals then some might forgive him however if he is out on the slosh, doing stuff like this when he should be keeping himself in condition for a promotion fight? Are you really happy with that?.....because if he was one of ours playing up like that, I wouldn't

Fair do's to you yorkshire (and Visitingblade) - that's a load of info to help BWFC fans have a decent day out

I'm in your Kop end on saturday with my mate who is a season ticket holder (sat on my hands) - I'm guessing that social club is the one where I'm parking up and meeting him

Spent 2/3 years occasionally watching both Sheffield clubs when I lived in the city and Bramhall Lane is a great place - decent stadium with an absolute perfect location far better than the pigsty at Swillsborough

Have a good day on saturday but hope you don't take 3 points. Happy if us and you both go up at the end of the season

I agree Madine is a twat Yorkshire, but what's your thoughts on the Billy Sharp "fuck off wednesday" clip that did the rounds last year ?

That pip squeak isn't very clean then for balance is he ?

On behalf of a fellow poster Little Whitt, he thought the BBC was something sexual, could you please correct him on this matter ?

Is it also true that Gary Madine is an anagram of Gay n Mardie ? It does sum him up perfectly I must admit.

Thanks.

I for one have rated madine this season. I know plenty will disagree and i know hes not the best footballer.

But we have looked worse without him this season and he has worked his arse off.

I enjoy going to Sheffield Utd, one of the better away days. Decent drink, proper ground and fans who are generally not up there own arses.

Had a few good days out there but not when we got walloped 4-0 with Deane and Agana running riot

Shared a house with a sheff u fan when at uni.

A few years later he got in contact and I went to meet him and then went to the game.

Went to his local, he walked up to the bar ordered a drink then paid for it and walked away. Was stood there feeling a right lemon, so got myself one. Got a round in myself to make a point then went the to game. Lost 3-1 and was sat with him in the home section. A shite day, was glad to get home.

Never seen the cunt since.

Thanks Yorkshire for the info, been bramall Lane a few times but not for a few years so the pub recommendations has come in handy

Yorkshire, is the Howard any good? Only 2 mins from the station.

Yorkshire, is the Howard any good? Only 2 mins from the station.

The Howard is bang outside the station so it usually, by default, ends up being a designated away fans pub. Like Sanchez says, nothing special, but very convenient both pre and post game.

There's a decent sports bar that we ended up in last time and/or the time before. No idea where it was mins but they did food and had pool tables etc. Had a few flat dicks in too

Common Room.

Have to walk up some steps to the entrance?

Sheffield equivalent to the Beehive, but near the station, The Tap & The Globe are much better.

Anyone preferring a bite to eat on the way home, suggest go via castleton. Years since last went but there was one pub where the landlord was a sheff u fan. He would have bets and a number of fivers were displayed on the walls with details of the bet.

Can't remember the pubs name but was good food etc.
