I think you should find the time to sit down and read the report rather than concentrating on a single illustration from a chapter heading... then perhaps you can make a sensible contribution, maybe with a similarly academically structured contra-arguement?

Wow, that's asking a hell of a lot from Captain Facetious.

Anyway, back to the point: producing more of our own oil isn't going to suddenly drop the price, nor is it going to suddenly provide energy security.

Nevertheless, it should be done, to help us on that path, and avoid dealing with evil twats across the waters, where possible.

Getting the SoH reopened is the big one.

I'd also add, that many jobs have been lost and refining capacity gone.

We can have both this, and renewables, until the latter is fully capable of meeting our energy needs.

It is important that producing more of our own doesn't extend into mission creep of course, but it probably wouldn't given that we can't produce anywhere near enough to meet demand.

My current concern isn't just the price of oil & gas but an actual shortage, particularly of gas.

The SoH closure is creating a global shortfall of gas. Like it or not, the UK industrial economy is underpinned by gas and without a reserve we are going to leave ourselves drastically exposed, particularly this winter. The UK has through privatisation adopted a "just in time" policy with regards to gas, the storage facilities we used to have at Bacton and on the Humber Bank have virtually gone.

It's not the price that bothers me, although high costs will lead to suffering amongst those on fixed and limited incomes, it's the possibility we might not have enough gas to go around, I am old enough to remember three day weeks and playing footie on Wednesday afternoons because floodlights were banned.

I believe we had a window of opportunity in spring to open up a dormant field which would have given us some security but this was missed after a Cabinet disagreement which our PM has not resolved.

I suspect it won't be immigration that does for this government, it will be an energy crisis and a collapse in industry similar to 1974.

I suspect he had the shit kicked out of him by a punk back in the 60’s and has never recovered from having to fish his big coat, his air fryer and his teeth out of a canal when the punks owned him.

Half term this week. Back to school tomorrow. 😉

I see. Whilst sipping ice cold Estrella Galicia's watching one of the swaybacked mares nibbling the ponderosa grass and already having withdrawal symptoms from no football until the 11th June, I hadn't really given it much thought.

Back to school indeed. The dimwit with the furtive imagination should revise a little more. You and I know when punk emerged. Mid 70's.

Keffiyeh Winklepicker is likely just miffed because the bosses football team fucked up.

Sanchez and bums? Well, goes together like a horse and carriage.

Yep. I thought Punk started around 1978 but this says differently. Interesting how it emerged. That was around the time I voted Labour for the one and only time. We are all allowed to make a mistake once. (Labour government 1974-79)

‘United States (1974–1975): The scene started in New York City at the iconic CBGB music club, spearheaded by bands like the Ramones, Television, and Patti Smith. Raw, stripped-down garage rock laid the blueprint for the genre. [1, 2, 3, 4]

United Kingdom (1976): Driven by economic frustration and high unemployment, the movement became a massive subculture defined by bands like the Sex Pistols and The Clash.’

You obviously didn't read the full script. I'll let you do the leg work. One blow doesn't win a war matey.

I've had far worse than that one.

  Hells Angels did in Heywood pal. You couldn't have been around '69 - mid/late 70's without taking a few losses. The one you reference wasn't one of them as it happens. Fair chance there are two or three others on here who know this but who really gives a fuck?

You'd have been cock of the junior school playground I expect? Maybe just cock.

Given I wasn't even born in 69 I can't comment

As far the rest of your comments you just need to sober up and think

Otherwise you look like a dick

😅 This is great.
A couple of days of serious stuff and now back to normal.👏

Yes it was much better when Bolty was cleaning his ute.

His interjections tend to drag all conversations in the same direction(less).
