Site Supporter Good Knee Posted October 10, 2017 Site Supporter Share Posted October 10, 2017 Wrong about inaugural trip should have read article first never mind ,I do however remember it was a glorious sunny day down there and we had to walk through a large park where we witnessed grown men playing a game with sticks on a flat pitch with no mud on it under a blue sky, it was an alien world. leigh white
Only time I went on it was when it was parked up in Euston station for a look, it was just an old Royal Mail carriage painted in psychedelic colours.
buckhurstwhite
I seem to re-call going on this for a cup game at Pompey and if remember correctly I think the team travelled back on it, long time ago mind so could be wrong.
bolton va va
Went on it all 3 times......Bournemouth, Portsmouth & Cardiff. We won at Pompey & it was a tricky walk back to Fratton station but when we got there the police lined us up outside the station & we got dead brave from behind a load of police, but the Pompey fans shouted that they were going to brick us at the next station. They did......& a few windows went through. I'm pretty sure the players did come back on that one......i seem to remember John Byrom being there & having a few drinks !! Take Hunt Off
We had the train for Bournemouth away but there was a pecking order as you can imagine & only a minority travelled on it . We went on the ordinary train on a convoluted journey but still a great trip even though we got beat 2-0 .I think the Stretford rags got beat 4-1 The same day which eased the pain. Anyway we had the last laugh (promoted as champs)
bolton va va
The ones to Pompey & Cardiff were less than half full, but the Bournemouth one was heaving.......there were some sights on Trinity St with the ammount of booze being carried. Take Hunt Off
Tbh we used to travel up & down the country using BR free passes & quarter fares borrowed at attractive rates from our mates working at Horwich Loco works , Leagueliner was a bit more pricey.
