Wish I'd have known where matey. My last house in Bolton was behind the Red Bridge (in Tetbury Drive). I'd have had purple hands, lips etc. for months.

Used to walk along past tetbury on my way home from school. My old fella was works manager at red bridge was a fair while in the seventies. Used to go in as a kid-was ace seeing all the big machines and bringing loads of paper home for scrawling on.

Winberry picking round the quarry at the back of The Wilton on Belmont Road - many a day spent in the summer holidays when I was a nipper. My Mum used to rinse out the empty ice-cream cartons from Cordon Bleu in Astley Bridge and send us up there with instructions not to come back until they were full. My Dad loved a winberry pie - I can't stand them now

Sacrilege.

Heaven sent those insignificant little fruits.

Once spent hours picking several pounds worth to make wine. Just about finished fermenting and the demijohn exploded.

My Dad was unemployed at the time and we used to have winberry pie almost every night. I simply got to hate it

Now....you've given me an idea......winberry gin.....I've made blackberry/sloe/plum/etc gin in the past so maybe this is my next one!!!!

My dad used to do rumtopf.

Ive got loads of jostaberries in the freezer with the intention of making wine. Reckon they'd make an interesting gin. Also consider rose hips. Full of vitamin c and available at this time of year.
