A triumph of pseudoscience over evidence. I'd be very surprised if this isn't overturned on appeal. Mind you we live in Trump's world now so who knows?

Even if it's overturned much like the disproven vaxines give kids autism 'research' it'll give the nutters enough ammo to base conspiracy theories off.

The weed killer Roundup is used by farmers to kill weeds around crops and also to increase the yield of the crop but the main constituent ‘Glyphosate’ also finds its way into the wheat, barley, etc and it’s this chemical that is causing a bad effect on people’s health.

 

This could turn out to be another world wide ‘thalidomide’ type problem once more facts come to light.

Glyphosphate has been around for nearly 50 years.

Anyway, there's been a lot of anger towards Monsanto and much seems to be on the basis of having a go at big business.

Evidence either way of glyphosate's issues will come out eventually.

For me, whilst I do use it as a tool of work, I do so on a basis of as little as necessary.

As with any chemical, if you don't need to use it; don't.

Everything is toxic at the right dose. Monsanto have been the whipping boys for the organic lobby for years now - so this trial has no doubt been influenced by years of negative press.

 

Essentially you've got a jury of laypeople overturning the findings of years of scientific research. That's dangerous.

It is however interesting that over recent times directives have come in to remove and reduce the number and amount of pesticides in use.

 

A bit like global warming; it would be folly to assume there's no risk until completely proven otherwise.

 

Slightly off topic a conversation at the cricket re environmental issues and the need to reduce reliance on meat based diet and eat more plant based protein sources.

Not for health reasons directly but for the environment and amount of food capable of being produced.

Again a societal shift required but that will happen in time.

Some of the materials I used on a daily basis in my old job are now banned in some countries. And rightly so. The old chicken wire fire blankets and MDF that used to burn your skin after cutting it etc

Becoming less and less convinced it will actually happen with TM at the helm. Feel sure this is part of a remainer strategy to allow the general public to become bored/pissed off with the lack of progress/apparent disorder then introduce a second referendum in the hope of not having to bother ditching all of that political control.

 

We will see but the longer it goes on, the less convinced I am that it will actually happen. Even if it is some sort of bodged halfway house with a view to an easy rejoining I will view that as a failure and an abuse if the democratic process which I am sure millions of others will feel too.

 

Could be far stormier times ahead.

roundup is probably one of a few things that can kill hogweed.
