F1 is back

Looking forward to this season

Changes to the front wing supposed to mean more overtaking - lets see

Tyre compounds simplified

Just sat down to watch recording of qualifying. Be interesting to see if Hamilton still dominant but Red Bull the big curiosity for me this year. Will they move forward or slip back into the pack?

That's an even more impressive win then. The other fellas all had cars.

I think over time he's earned most of that luck. He earned his place in the best car by excelling in lesser ones. He gambled on Mercedes when they weren't the finished article. Today with pole he mayb

Hamilton

Mercedes look awesome as usual

Red Bull disappointing. Was also hoping for more from Danny Ricciardo and Renault. Good result for McLaren

Merc cake walk for the first time since 2016 by the looks of it. Ferrari horrible in the speed traps, after being at the top in testing - pretty clear they've found a problem and are running in a safer mode - pretty shoddy after being the top engine last year.

Looking good for Lewis if he just has to beat Bottas over the 21 races.

The first couple of laps and the last 2 are the only ones worth watching these days. Its not about driving skills but who has better tyres

Tyres are important, and how the car and drivers manage them is vital.

The teams all have the same tyres to choose from though, so that's where their skills come in.

Bit of a dull race in the end apart from the midfield scrap but then Melbourne usually is. Didn’t really tell us much apart from Ferrari appear to have a problem

Have you seen anything of formula E, the electric stuff?

Saw a bit of a race recently and was impressed. Seriously quick, and one mighty fucking crash. Just a high pitched whine as opposed to a petrol engine growl.

Never watched a full race. Bores me shitless. Just thought I’d share that.

Carry on

Yep. Not watched a full race but seen bits of a few races and those cars do look quick - guessing it's because they don't have to carry the fuel load?

Thanks mick. We will :D

tbh it bored me shitless for a few years, but the arrival of Hamilton on the scene along with various rule changes made it more interesting for me. Now with Verstappen around it's got even better imo

The midfield has become really competitive. Good to see mclaren on the up - just wish Williams could get their act together

A bit too competitive at times!!! Shame Force India released Ocon - look forward to seeing him in a Mercedes next year

Yeah - glad for McLaren and Norris looks a pretty decent driver. Williams still look a bit shit which is a shame

Bottas ahead of Hamilton again

Ferrari off the pace

Verstappen mightily pissed off with being blocked in qualifying and vowing revenge

Could be a good race

Love the little bits of shit like like the nearby cement works blowing cement dust onto the track and screwing up the qualifying tyre choice

All steady from Mercedes again.

F1 is like the Brexit/Takeover threads

theres the occasional bit of interest (or car crash if you like), but mostly it’s the same turgid repetition

Enjoyed it today

If all you want is crashing watch banger racing

Brilliant today in terms of tactics, when to pit, what tyres to put on, double-stacking from Mercedes, the way Ferrari fucked over le Clerc and the brilliant drive from Albon

This is going to be a really interesting season

The obvious question then is how do you know it's turgid repetition?

This one was quite comfortable, but the last race was totally unpredictable.

F1 is utter dog dirt.

Guys at the very pinnacle of their sport. Incredibly talented.

Swimming is shit so I just don't watch it

I didn’t say I’d never seen it

We won't expect any comments on the upcoming mushrooms thread then.....
