Maybe Ashley will take a punt on us - he seems to enjoy buying run down business losing a fortune

Pissed off. Why don't some fucking oil rich arabs buy us?

Bahraini's perhaps.

Because we had as chairman the one individual in the UK who was less pleasant to deal with than Mike Ashley?

Dunno about that, read that Newcastle have been on the market for 11 years

How long is it now since ED first put us up for sale?

the day he arrived wasn't it?

though there was a period of time where we weren't for sale

then we were again

call it 3 years though

I was really thinking of the total time he club had been for sale, including the period Gartside was shopping it around for ED?

Still, none of this is going to magic up a billionaire buyer for BWFC. Be interesting to see how this plays out for Nufc, I wonder why they went public before the deal was signed, but maybe that wasn't intentional...

Cheers, still some way off then if Ashley had been trying to flog it from he outset.

October 2014 is when it became widely known. I believe it was some years before (at least 3) that potential buyers were being vetted.

Newcastle is a decent purchase at the right price given that they have a gigantic catchment area with bugger all competition for fans especially between them and Scotland. Like Norwich - huge county and no other league teams. We on the other hand are literally surrounded.

As much as Ashley may be distasteful, Newcastle have done ok during his stewardship.

Might not have chucked mega bucks, but brought in a decent manager and they are now establishing themselves in the premier league.

He also got rid of their best manager.

Spot on. To think some deluded Geordies were suggesting that he was worse than Ken. I’d take Ashley as owner

They're doing ok though aren't they?

It's not who goes, but who comes in, and the success you have as a result.

I wish our owner had been as bad as him.

A lot of Newcastle fans seem to think because they have a big stadium and a lot of fans, that they have a god given right to be challenging for the title.

This Arab bloke apparently can't get the £25m proof of funds (according to SKY) needed to satisfy the takeover, is his name Sheik Bassini

I’m up in Durham at moment and the local press reckon it won’t happen saying that bids that hit public domain before completion don’t usually happen.

Well what he needs to do is buy a club nearer to his cousin and get DHL to pick his bank book up to prove he can afford it.  Makes far better sense to me :)
