I didn't go to the match but Gordon McQueen rings a bell as the penalty misser, it would have put them 2-0 up.There was no match commentary on the radio just reports every ten minutes and then right at the end Piccadilly Radio interrupted a song with the "It's a goal" jingle...what joy when it was Bolton who had scored the winner.

I went to the 3-0 but can't remember any of the match, what sticks in the mind is how full the United side of the Embankment was.They only got the Manchester Road half and Bolton the other half.The only other time i have seen that half of the Embankment as full was the semi final against Everton,What else sticks in the mind is the taunting of Man Utd fans back at school after Xmas

Me & Gubbins working down the road at the British Arkady at the time for that 2-1 win at O/T in 79, what a fucking night.

I've a memory of that 3-0 win being a foggy night. Being so young at the time I couldn't really assess the game in any way but I distinctly remember the talk around being of how Frank was taking the piss out of Gordon McQueen.

All that time that elapsed between those two wins and the two back to back wins at United in the early 2000s. What goes around comes around. It may feel like light years ago but it can happen again!

My memory tells me McQueen scored the penalty but had to retake it and missed it, can anyone confirm my memory is correct? What a night it was I went with brother in law (all reds) who were in Bolton end and his 4 brothers 2 of who were later were active with the MIB United mob. Few other LH reds got sussed and had to make a swift exit to the Warwick road terrace.
