Why do stupid entities like The Council, highways or Housing Associations etc. engage firms to do outside work at this time of year?

Paying through the nose for lads, sorry, executives, to sit reading The Sun and drinking coffee in site containers, or having forty winks in the cab of a JCB?

What do you suggest? Make workmens wages 'weather-dependant' so they get paid fuck all, and they only get a day off when it's pissing down? Nobody would go into the building trade if that was the case.

No, but it seems private works get done in summer and public works get done when the weather's shite and it's going dark at 4pm.

I doubt they get a discounted rate.

My gripe is more with the various agencies handing out the contracts not the contractors.

But...

It might just be my bias, but it seems like folk working on private projects tend to graft on in poor-ish weather.

Public works, a spot of drizzle and it's 'all in the site cabins for Chase the Ace and several brews...'

I saw one lad nipping to the shop and returning with a ten can box of Stella ffs.*

* It may have actually been a large Warby's toastie loaf in the carrier bag.

Whoever the contractors are that work on the 30+ miles of roadworks on the M6 in Staffordshire are on a proper good butty.

From what I can tell, they have been paid to wank in the bushes by the hard shoulder for 5 years now with no sign of it ending.

Doubtless they will find another massive stretch of motorway to wank themselves blind on when and if they ever get bored of the M6

I'm watching the works on Walker Fold Lane with great interest.

If they don't crack on they'll miss the last freeze of the winter that'll fuck up the 'repairs' they've managed in the twelve hours that've been workable over the course of the six month contract.

You're starting to sound like "one of them" @Youri McAnespie You'll be calling for the return of chain gangs next...

On the other hand, it's very likely that every cunt you're talking about is a born-again Thatcherite, so you may have a point. Let them feel the wrath of what they really want.

Gas or Electric? 🤣🤣

Work in this trade and you should really come up to road workers and tell them they’ve not done enough and how they should do it , they love that .
same as the constant “ loads of cones and nowt going on”  and a particular favourite “ is the road really shut ? , I only live there “

same with most things, if you don’t know what they’re doing or what goes into it, you won’t know how long it should take . This particular true on motorway works

*fat olive, deals with complaints all week from “ experts” who could do it better and due to this politically correct era can no longer tell people to fuck off and has to answer each stupid enquiry politely , then see it on here, my place of refuge 😁

A lot of work depends upon ground conditions too.

Whilst it might be preferable to do stuff in better weather, there isn't enough time in that short period, so stuff would take even longer.

An awkward time for me, as some folk see their grass is a bit scratty and are asking why it's not cut. Mower weighs several times more than a flymo and can do more damage than good.

Even trogging up and down on a lawn whilst pruning etc can compress it and cause future issues.

I think Bolton Blondie must be in your line of work as Rudy said she had flattened some grass in her time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I assume all this Smart Motorway work is more about keeping a workforce employed rather than improving the road network.

Doesnt matter how smart the motorway is if its full of numb nuts driving on it.

Then it’ll be potholes, then barriers then markings then a new junction, it’s a nightmare I fuckin hate it.

I'm not in that line of work however I do know...

Water freezes at a certain temperature, water turning into ice expands with quite some force and in NW England water is pretty much in every nook and cranny nine months a year.

And...

Work only gets done when workers are present.

My beef isn’t with the workers it’s the annoyance of stuff that needs doing. I’ve no doubt the workshy fuckers are fully earning their coin

They are pure I'm alright Jack nouveau Tory twats.

They all have St George mugs.

That said the whole reason socialism falls down is because of lazy twats swinging the lead.

I used to live on a scumbag estate, the residents would drag whatever they no longer wanted onto the playing field nearby.

The council cleanup would, say, turn up at 9am to shift a settee and they'd somehow manage to spin out shifting it into a three hour job.

Same goes for their tradesmen.

Stick them on a foreigner, using materials from the day job, they're like whippets out of the trap.

They should pull their fingers out.

Always makes me laugh when the big yellow info sign goes up.

ROADWORKS

EXPECTED COMPLETION

IN 13 WEEKS

Then, when they’re all done and dusted in 8 weeks they want the plaudits for being quicker than expected.

No, you wankers, employ a better surveyor who is good  at his job.
