Exactly - it's in the spotlight. Definitely is a good thing. There is less racist abuse at games these days and that's down to historical campaigns like Kick it Out and more recently, taking the knee. Previously these things were just ignored and swept under the carpet, players were told to get on with. Great for you guys who just want to enjoy the footy, but not so great for the Black lads being abused. Let's take the response to those lads missing the penalties against Italy, some of whom were still teenagers. In the past that kind of abuse would have largely been ignored and they would have been told to ignore it. Taking the knee hasn't prevented racist abuse - but it's meant people are much more likely to stand with those who get the abuse. The country proper got behind those lads after the abuse post Italy game. It was great to see, and no doubt helped them brush it off and move on. We also saw people arrested and charged by the police - these things didn't use to even be investigated. Edited December 6, 20223 yr by London Wanderer

But it’s started to rise again so taking the knee is not having the positive impact you would want. The abuse the lads got after missing the pens was mainly online which doesn’t make it right or wrong and it was good to see people being investigated, but when you get blacks abusing other blacks, which a lot of it was then you’re never going to win.

Have I misread that? It's not wrong because it's online? Glad you agree it was good to see it investigated. Didn't used to be. There's your positive impact. Not sure where you're getting those stats from. We've had a big increase in reports from football games since players started taking the knee. That just shows that more folk are now reporting it and the police are taking it more seriously. Don't get me wrong it's small steps, but there are positive signs. But let's say you and others are right and it is having no impact whatsoever. Why does that still make it a pointless act? Let them make a point about it if they want and give them some basic respect. No different to the folk who booed the minutes silence for the queen. Edited December 6, 20223 yr by London Wanderer

It was on a steady decline for years then the knee started and boom it’s rising again. Do you honestly think stewards, police and fans turned a blind eye for all this time then as soon as the knee started they thought let’s start reporting it now 😂😂😂 there’s being naive and there’s being stupid.

December 6, 20223 yr For me racism is either hateful or ignorant. In this instance the Lady in waiting was IMO ignorant rather than hateful so an apology covers it. If the palace decide that if she makes mistakes like this it is time for a new role then fair enough. Given the woman was wearing traditional dress the question 'where' are you from seems reasonable as not all black people come from the same place so understanding and appreciating the differences and diversity is surely a good thing. What is pretty ugly on this thread is that the victim has been pretty vilified by some, if that is the reaction when someone raises an issue it can not be right. 'If she was dressed like that she was looking to get a reaction' sound bit like the attitude there used to be to rape victims. I know that might sound over dramatic and am not comparing ignorant words to rape but the comparison with the treatment of victims is comparable IMO. Edited December 6, 20223 yr by Ani

Again, where are you getting these stats from? Who says racism at football is rising since they started taking the knee? Putting words into my mouth there mate. But if calling folk naive and stupid helps you thinking you're bossing an argument then crack on 👏 I'm not saying stewards and police were doing fuck all. But it's clear they've upped their game. Both online and at games. You've also got a rise in folk reporting it - especially at grassroots level - which IMO shows they are more likely to be listened to by the police.

Completely agree 👏 It's clear the lady pushed it hard after she said she was born here but an apology would have covered it. That's on the Palace - not Ngozi. What's worse is the abuse the workers at her charity are now getting. Accusing them of being racist is next level ignorance. Wonder if the mods will do anything about the comment earlier?
December 6, 20223 yr Are grown men still grinding their teeth over grown men choosing to take knee voluntarily? Are grown men still acting like any of it is forced or mandated by an invisible government of darkies who are threatening to imprison those who don't? Are grown men, adult men, actual fully grown human beings, still waving their fists at the telly every time they see a footballer get on one knee for a few seconds before a game? Fucking. Wow.

Just answer the question 😆 Who says there has been a rise in racist abuse at football games since players started taking the knee? You keep saying it. Not saying you're wrong - just not something I've seen any evidence of. According to Kick it Out there has been an increase of reporting from grassroots but overall, in the game reporting has gone down 8%. Which, by the logic you just used, would mean racism has actually decreased. Edited December 6, 20223 yr by London Wanderer
December 6, 20223 yr I saw a footballer yesterday make the sign of the cross before, during and after the game he was playing the fucking PIG Now, I can't stop thinking about Jesus and God and priests and whether they'll all be coming round to my house at the weekend and dragging me to church behind a pick up truck. IT NEEDS TO STOP BEFORE WE ALL FUCKING DIE

Which by my maths would suggest an overall increase. Also the rise in grassroots reporting has massively increased which like I have said for an increase in reporting you need an increase in abuse. They go hand in hand. Surprised to see a massive increase in an area like the West Midlands. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/black-country/revealed-explosion-racism-west-midlands-24829391.amp

As I say, you've misunderstood the causality between your suggested cause (taking the knee) and the effect (a rise in racist incidents being reported) Honestly, I'd drop this one as you stats don't say what you think they do.
