  1. I hope the number of renewable jobs do increase and it becomes a successful part of the economy, but we will need steel, bricks, cement, consumer products, plastics etc. If we don't make them ourselves we will have to import them. I do not understand why we would stop developing gas fields in the North Sea when we import gas from the Norwegian part of the North Sea.
  2. I refer to my reply to Cheese.
  3. Just to highlight what I said "driving remaining manufacturing jobs into oblivion"
  4. OK just checking my notes. Ed Miliband appointed Energy Secretary July 2024 commences accelerating net zero initiatives. December 2025 New policy End to issuing new oil and gas exploration licences in the North Sea.
  5. Current labour government policy is to accelerate net zero initiatives which are contributing to the UK having some of the highest industrial energy prices in the world. Manufacturing sectors which have high energy requirements are increasing uncompetitive, the Chemical sector in the UK has already been very adversely affected. Jobs will continue to be lost. The end of new licences in the North Sea is contributing to the continuing loss of jobs in the oil sector (we seem to be OK with paying for gas from the Norwegian sector of the North Sea). As well as the lost jobs, many of them skilled and well paid, we are reducing out ability to export and increasing our need to import energy and industrial products.
  6. If I was a constituent of Gorton and Denton I would have voted Conservative. For me the least worst outcome would have been a Labour win, then Reform, but the worst possible outcome in my opinion is a Green win.
  7. I don't want to see extremism of the left or right. I am a centre right conservative.
  8. A very dark day for British democracy, extremists on the left and right with their false promises. Sectarianism and "family voting" widespread. We will now see after the May elections a leadership challenge with the excereable Starmer being replaced by someone worse from the so called "soft left". In reality left wing extremists driving any remaining manufacturing into oblivion and bankrupting our pubs, restaurants and cafes.
  9. Glad we got the goal, but we were very disappointing. Reading are a horrible team and we should have scored more than one goal. It probably would have been very different if Kenny had put that chance away.
  10. Congratulations to Huw and his family. The thread is bringing back lots of memories for me. Knew Barry very well at school and uni, and Clive but not as well as he was a few years below. Peter Nightingale was our coach at Under 12's. Used to go in the Howcroft a lot 77-81, didn't go when Clive was landlord as I moved away for work. The Howcroft was a great pub, the landlords then were Frank and Ollie. Made a massive mistake by having 4 pints of Howcroft Cider on my 18th.

It is definitely something you should do and saves a lot of hassle. Best if you say you need to do it for tax reasons.
  12. Randall to Blackpool, so Evatt is still a fan. Personally I am glad to see him gone. Playing number 10 is a difficult position to play, he has some ability but he doesn’t have the character to be a top player. Sadly I suspect we are still paying a considerable proportion of his inflated wages
  13. Thank goodness for that, I thought we moved the ball a bit quicker and played a lot better than we have recently. Although it was Wigan and they were woeful, if they carry on playing like that they will be relegated (and good residence to them).
  14. He should have had that on target at the very least.
  15. I think a more truthful narrative of why the WMP banned the Macabi fans is now generally accepted, but only due to the tenacity of Nick Timothy MP and others. I don't think the authorities can attempt to "move on" from this because senior officers not only put forward an exaggerated narrative they also mislead Parliament and you can’t do that without consequences.
  16. Sadly that was a woeful performance. I know it should have been a penalty and I thought their goal was offside, but we barely threatened. I thought Taylor was the worst player on the pitch by a country mile.
  17. We could have won that game we had chances and good positions, but the finishes were poor and some of the final balls weak. Dempsey should have done better and I think so should Taylor with the header. There are some fundamental problems with our play that is making it relatively easy to defend against. As others have said we play slowly with predictable passes and are not brave in trying to play through the opposition. When we did play a couple of long balls to ACD and he was in a good position there didn't seem to be any support. Playing 10 is a difficult position and only the very best call pull it off. Randall isn't even close, when he does get in a good position he seems to lack any conviction. I am not as big a fan of Sheehan as many on here, I think most of his play is too deep and when he is the final third he often floats the ball in which is easier to defend. He was beaten too easily twice on the edge of the box, which could have cost us. I thought Conway did add a bit of go forward both with his runs and a couple of sharper passes. I am pretty pessimistic about the rest of the season unless we can find a way of increasing the tempo and be a bit braver in the final third.
  18. Doncaster should be at least 3 up. The only saving us is their poor finishing. Very poor performance. Surely we will be better in the second half.
  19. That's because they are willfully blind.
  20. Just finished watching the recording of the game, didn't know the score. Two great goals. Hope no one was posting comments before 90 minutes.

    Reading (H)

Disappointing result 2 points lost. Lots of good things in the first half, but not much in the final third. Playing 10 is a very difficult role, Randall not good enough nor McAtee. Not a good goal to concede, but we had allowed pressure to build from a poor team.

    Decline

Very disappointing season. Massive under achievement. Poor signing, poor loans, so many injuries. Shows how important it was for us to have Trafford and Bradley on loan. SS has a massive task to turn this round over the summer, but it can be done.
  23. Great performance, very impressed with the intensity that we played with right to the final whistle.

    Next Manager

I remember that game at Swindon away when Phil Brown was caretaker after Todd went. We could do with a bit of that (the performance not Browny).
  25. I know it's a bit unfair to pick out one player, but Thomason is rubbish.
