And Some Folks Hated Her
Globetrotter replied to globaldiver's topic in Behind The Stands - 'Classics'
Of EU funding? You sure about that buddy? I would be very surprised if that's the case, surely Mersyside and SE Yorks with the 'Urban regeneration fundining' top the list. -

Leigh - I am sure you have worked since the 80's though I don't know you. My step dad and two uncles lost their jobs in this period (possibly you worked with them - Parsonage, Bikershaw ...). They and I am sure you moved on and got other jobs. In many areas Thatcher introduced re-training initiatives. One lad who works for me as an example saw his dad lose his job in the mines (Nottingham) and he is now a maths teacher. A huge amount of re- training took place in the NE in electronics etc so really I would say those of you who re-trained are the ones who looked after your own future - not old shredded wheat head ... Quite apart from all the politics of cleaner fuel / cheaper coal from Poland it is a fact that industries have their day and when they do we have to re-train. That is why BIHE (fine technical institution) is now Bolton Uni and they are teaching creative writing and not Building studies. It is also why none of us or our kids are working in textile mills ... Scargill was right, but he was and is a cunt of the highest order. -

How so? Coyle was never really a first team player / choice. Allardyce came through the ranks and finished off his playing career here, and once again is our best modern day manager. Relatively I would say Coyle had a minor affiliation.
-
And the fact that Newcastke didn't give him time or that England did not come knocking has got fuck all to do with us. It's interesting that we all want Owen to succeed (me included) when he had a small affiliation to the club but one of our own, who we brought through is the devils sperm because he wanted bigger and better than we could offer. Even though there us not one other I dividual that I can think of in 30 yrs who has contributed more .. I have said on here months ago that this very same arrogance is what wr celebrated when he refused to go cap in hand to the big boys ...
-
What do you all think he is bitter about? He gave us the best days in a lifetime and moved on because he thought he could do better elsewhere, yes he is an arrogant cunt and up his own arse but he is by far the best manager we have had in most of our lifetimes, without question. More likely that he just likes reminding everyone what a superior manager he is, like it not he is ... Arrogant, yes. Bitter? I very much doubt it ..
-
Why does everyone keep saying he is a nice guy and using that as an excuse for how he probably manages the club? Most complain about how stubborn he is and how badly some of the players have been treated - that's not such a nice guy. He is clearly clueless and out of his depth. Probably a nicer guy than to share an iron bru with (than Megson) but .. Megson was also fair game because of the comments he made time and again about the fans.

No, Dougie won (or was that me who predicted t'other fella)

Well Mr Einstein, you have answered a question that was not actually asked. Save yourself some typing (I and presumably you both know that it iis a puzzle based on the way that the question is framed - it just poor form to change the rules part way through ...)

If it's McLaren, which I don't think is such a bad idea, no way will it be alongside Coyle. And, no way can we expect Gartside to impose it. Either Coyle appoints his own new coach (which won't be McLaren) or he falls on his sword and a new manager steps in - which might be McLaren ..

I said on a thread ages ago that out of O'Neil and Hughes I reckon only O'Neil feels he can pick his next job. He has. Maybe Hughes after losing out at Villa and Sunderland may be more inclined to consider now? He is the outstanding candidate and should be number one choice, still a long shot though ...
-
Mmmm. So he gives his parents an extra 50p each they still only get ?49.50 each (if you follow the original logic ...) so ?99.00. who got the other pound? The waiter in the other totally unrelated story? Anyway, I reckon Marc Wright is gonna win
-
Do yourself a favour buddy and accept that there is no answer / trick ... It shows how times has changed though as it used to be 3 blokes have a meal that costs ?25, they each put a tenner in. The waiter comes back with the ?5 change and they agree to give him a ?2 tip. So .... They each get ?1 back. That means they pay ?9 each and he got ?2 so where is the other pound ....
-
So it's heads or tails .... Gartside is not just wheeled out once in a while to anoint new managers. Of course he is partly responsible for the success of Allardyce and the failure of Lee. He runs the club so he is involved in a lot if what they do. Given that one lasted 8 yrs and the other 6 months I reckon he can hold his head up high on that one. Choosing a ne manager will not be easy, but it is becoming more and more obvious that it's needed. I reckon Gartside is better placed than most to make that choice.

NB, you hoisted yourself onto the soap box, I was just putting forward the alternative position of the less educated viewer ... FWIW, if you had narrowed it down to Saturday night viewing I would agree that the quality is lower and that's one of the reasons I am rarely watching it ... But, the whole 'less educated' thing is surprising from you ....
-
That post must have been made just after Defoe put the third in? If not what a ridiculous, snobbish remark to make ... There is as much tv programming on terrestrial aimed at intelligent folk like you as there is on the other kinds available. Equally as much shite on satellite / cable / dodgy, whatever ... With reference to programmes designed to entertain educated folk, can I offer as a suggestion Saturday Kitchen? It's hosted by the erudite Yorkshireman James Martin, who you may be familiar with ...

Fuck me I'd rather stick with coyle I really hope that works out for you (us).
-
Try for Hughes, beyond that not sure - maybe Curbishley as 'Andy Walker' said. But, to spin it around, do you think Owen is the man to navigate us through these fixtures? I really think he is now having a negative effect on the team. would we do worse with a Jimmy Pip or a randomly selected ST holder in charge until we get past these fixtures? I would only keep Coyle if I saw signs that he is progressing, frankly I don't ... As said earlier, the only logical reason for keeping him now is cost.
-
Who would do worse (genuine question).
-
The only reason for keeping the guy now is cost. You could put my missus in charge of that group of players, give her 20 games and she would do no worse. Sack him, leave nobody in charge, they will do no worse. I hoped he would grow into the role but more importantly I hoped he would recognise that he needs to ditch his buddies and get a coach in to work alongside himself - but oh no. It's no good saying the club need to install coaches to help if OC himself does not recognise that he needs that help. So for me, get rid. I hope Hughes will come, but doubt it, I am now at the stage where I think we are better off without any manager rather than having him .... So sad, when we beat Stoke it was clear that the whole crowd that cheered him off wants him to succeed, but I'm afraid he just does not have it ....

Not surprised at those stats as we played at a high tempo and clearly we looked to hit the ball into gaps to turn their defenders, a tactic that worked so well done Coyle. Great result and a great performance. Would like to see the tackle stats as that is what yesterday's performance and result was based on for me, getting in their faces and allowing them no time on the ball - long overdue. Cahill and Wheater were immense, I know it was their type of game but again credit were it is due. Great debut by Riley, don't care about his passing (in this game). Just good to see a young local lad get stuck in and not be overawed. He won't have played at anywhere near that intensity so it was a good show from him and let's hope he develops into a first team pick.

Correct. its probably more like 35.
