  1. Henry Winter. Maybe he thinks Johnson is a little more disciplined. Anyway, his opinion of what Capello thinks so it could indeed be bollocks.
  2. I think the max punishment he gets in court is a ?2,500 fine (could be wrong). If FA found him guilty he would get what? Min 2 weeks wages and a ban? Maybe the CPS should be supplying evidence to the FA rather than the FA being sensitive about 'prejudicing' the the criminal case.
  3. I would also have my head in my hands every time a goal scoring opportunity falls to Theo Walcott, a proper false alarm that lad. I read somewhere that Capello doesn't like to use Richards at RB because he bombs on too much and that doesn't suit his plan for Walcott. Well fuck me if England are building their team around that fella ...
  4. Like most I've been impressed with young Joe and have no fear about him stepping up, likewise with Bogdan in goal. A few things seem to be coming together now, solid midfield allowing M Davies to run around and the wings looking dangerous at time. Defence looking more solid than for a long time. Important game this one and I am gonna go for a 2-0 to Bolton ..
  5. The FA have ballsed this one up in my opinion. They should have dealt with this within a month of the allegation as a football disciplinary hearing, the evidence is clear for all to see (much clearer in my opinion than the Suarez case) and they could have drawn their own conclusion. If he was guilty then strip him of the captaincy if not carry unless a criminal prosecution finds otherwise. Instead they have hidden behind the criminal prosecution which inconveniently is now after the euros. So rising to the political pressure they are under they strip him of the role without any hearing whatsoever thus pissing off their own manager and in my view creating even more tension and confusion in the squad - particularly now that camel face 1 has said doesnt want the armband. I can't think of an England player I dislike more as an individual that Terry (plus football wise i think he is nearly done) and I don't feel sorry for him on a personal level at all but this process of making it up as they go along just proves what a joke organisation they can be at times ..
  6. Mmm .. Kinda missed the point there Frank. And, if you want to talk about who is being positive about BWFC and what is going on then you only need to look at my earlier posts on this very thread.
  7. Of course it is a simple matter of timing. When I say seasoned pros I mean pros in the sensevthat they have a few years under the belt in youth development, not that they actually used to be pro footballers. JP may well develop into being a good coach but my point is that for ?1m a year, salary of a fringe player, we might attract an establish development pro ..
  8. I'm not sure if that is addressed at me, the bulk of my post is actually a comment from another poster but I see as usual my technical skills have let me down and it looks like my quote ... FWIW my thoughts; First of all asking a businessman to oversee and make the decision on which players stay to be developed and which are released is ludicrous, I assume the comment was made Tongue in cheek ..These successful academies are usually overseen by seasoned professionals who focus on youth development as a career, not the first step of a coaching career. I don't know what Jimmy Pip's aspirations or skills are but this for me is a quick win for the club. For the money spent on a fringe player, ?1m per year, I am sure we can attract a top level professional to oversee the development of the youth players etc. I have actually heard good stories about the set up at Bolton and ED has invested in the new facilities etc so now we maybe need one of the top level Academy Directors to finish the job off.
  9. Macc were unlucky in the 2nd half not to get back level, we were crap on the whole. Positives were Bogdan, Riley and the female lino .. Our pattern of play doesn't even work properly against this level of opposition, it's always good to get a win but I didn't come away feeling any less worried about the rest of the season. Bogdan and Riley are no worse than our regular first teamers and the young kid who came on as a sub looks lively but did not see enough to rate him. I am not sure whether I should be pleased or even more worried that these second stringers fit in so easily ..
  10. "The whole set-up appears to be haphazard and poorly run. As I said, a real business person would not let the current situation continue for long. Sometimes ex-footballers are the worst people to be involved in the running of a club and I would suggest that Jimmy Phillips, et al are good examples of the wrong sort of selection/promotion" Maybe we should ask Alan Sugar if he is prepared to give it a go?
  11. It's been said before, many times, but this focusing on the total debt is misleading. The real problem that they seem to be addressing is the continual losses, I think ED tipped in another ?17M cash last season and so they are looking to address that by getting costs down. The priority is to make sure the total owed does not get higher, not working out how to pay back the total ?100M.
  12. No new contract from me, whatever division we end up in. I'd like to see him retire at the end of this season, his legs have clearly gone and he has nothing left to prove. He's got his England cap, a legacy of being almost unplayable at his peak (physically) and is still massively respected by the majority of our fans for the part he has played in our recent history. I can't see Coyle giving him a new contract even if we go down and it would not be right seeing him turn out for Bury, Preston or whoever.
  13. One thing is for sure, the lad is completely deluded. He has just claimed on SSN that David Beckham might be a good signing for his beloved Whites, maybe ....
  14. I've not been able to follow much of what has gone on but from what I have seen they are hardly rolling out the red carpet for him are they? That Villas-Boas seems to think that the lad should be crawling over broken glass to get there. I don't recall any manager ever pointing out that there are weaknesses to the game of a potential signing (and adding that he plays for a shit team). He then went on to sneer that they are miles apart on the negotiation (again odd). Also adding that they are prepared to move on to other options (odd, so early on in the talks). He gives the impression that they are almost reluctant to sign him, no wonder GC is in no rush ... He is currently nailed on for the England squad and can only lose that if he becomes a bit part at Chelsea .. Cue Twitcher winding down the passenger side window and telling that gap toothed fellow from Sky Sports what a 'Triffic' player he is ....
  15. Jules - I am sure that Ellis did teach this as part of some sports related course but the fact is that the whole Dave B studies thing came to prominence as part of a media studies initiative. Of course i know there is no such degree available and i am sure most of our friends on here are not so influenced by what i say to think otherwise. The point again, for me, is that we each do the best with the hand that we are dealt. I consider myself lucky that I had a wide range of useful choices, for todays lot I am less optimistic and I feel a little sorry for them ..
  16. Ironic isn't it that the decline of football violence that generally only involved the willing has coincided with an increase of mindless and unprovoked attacks on the unsuspecting.
  17. I was amazed that Dalglish didn't go for Cahill in the summer tied up with the Ngog deal. Since then their defence has had a great run with Skirtel and Agger, Carragher is back and they signed that other fella in the summer (can't recall his name). Surely less likely now than ever? I also have a feeling the Chelsea deal might not work out and that twitcher will step in ...
  18. Hazzy - I think there is a difference between a defender playing it long (when the opposition are more stretched thru closing us down) and the goalie when the opposition just set themselves up for a head on a stick to nod it back ..
  19. It's not his only option though is it? Plenty of times that the full backs are available and our ball playing England centre half. He has the option but does not use it. I assume though that is the instruction from OC to play it long otherwise he would have been dropped. I have nothing against the long ball tactic if you have a monster up front and plenty of bodies in midfield to contest the second ball. But, Coyle does not set the team up that way so like all if us I am confused about what the long ball is meant go achieve.
  20. To continue the technical point theme - it was actually media studies ...
  21. Petrov has always done ok'ish for me but I don't see him as our best player / only hope. Ricketts was as much a threat on that side yesterday as Petrov ever was. For me, the bright light is Mavies. Yes, we have not seen much end product yet but he seems to be the only one who gets hold of the ball and tries to make something happen.
  22. Jussie wasn't arguing because he has passion, he was arguing because he didn't like Cahill and then Knight, pointing out that he is a useless static bastard. Great shot stopper but that is only part of what a goalie does. I reckon his long ball tactics are the biggest cause of our problems. Launching it up field as though a 28 year old SKD will get on the end of it is futile and usually results in us facing up the second ball and under pressure within seconds. No defence can cope with that pressure for 90 mins. That said, I suppose we can hardly name him for the tactic, it happens so much that it must be an instruction from the iron bur drinking total football guru that is OC ...
  23. Exactly the same with papermaking. Another fine Lancashire industry that has gone away but at the time BIHE was had a world class reputation for educating this industry as well (and with the same result ref the overseas students).
  24. Good player for the club, proven at International level but as been as guilty as others for our shit defence this season so he is certainly not superman. Big cheers from me, very proud that he broke into the England team as a Bolton player but please move on very quickly so we can try to sort this mess out without having this as a distraction.
  25. Ref Building Studies courses, I agree but that is not my point. The building studies courses are not as available now but 'David Beckham Studies' is. So, a kid today has to ho with his / her best choice available. I brought BIHE into because of other snuffy remarks about it being for thickos who could not get into Uni. That was never it's purpose. I did a building studies course there and the course was full of plumbers, bricks etc who were looking to 'progress - off the tools'. Therefore, in certain ages miners will become teachers and potential site managers will end up .... I have no idea, poor sods they ...
