Politics - Part 2
Everyone in Bolton eligible to vote got a pamphlet with a double page spread for every candidate. It was the most information I’ve ever seen at an election in one publication. Whether people read them or not is another matter. Not sure of the cost but I’d like to see something similar for a GE instead of the many flyers from all parties. Edit. I’m assuming it was the same throughout GM.

Meanwhile in Spain
It’s higher than the first half of 2024 though. As you say too many.

Enjoyed yesterday again. I was busy during the women’s but saw most of the men’s. Buttler had little support until du Plooy. Good side Trent though. Looking forward to Wednesday. Any match with Joe Root playing is worth watching.

People should be concerned about who is Mayor under Burnham’s plans for Regional Devolution. For my part, having a Labour Mayor in GM is the best pragmatic approach rather than another at odds with the PM or government. Institute for GovernmentAndy Burnham’s devolution announcement is a strong start...Changes on tax, new powers and institutions show Burnham means business.

In the 2024 election, no second preference, Labour (Burnham) got 63.4% of the vote and Reform 7.5%. Reform were never going to win in GM but I guess they will be pleased with their increase in support. I voted for Bev Craig. They aren’t perfect but overall, I’m happy with how things have gone under Burnham and continuation rather than change is the best way forward here. IMO.

That plumber from Wigan who stood against Andy Burnham, ‘liked’ a Facebook post from someone who made a sexual remark about Carol Vorderman. He was asked about it on Newsnight and Question Time. It was all over the media that he was sexist. It didn’t help his cause during the election. I said a few weeks ago that banning under sixteens from the internet was fine but It was the over sixteens that should be looked at.

It’s good that some investment is going into long term cricket projects. https://cricket.lancashirecricket.co.uk/news/2026-news/manchester-super-giants-acquire-land-to-redevelop-high-performance-cricket-centre/?dm_i=1AF9,99OJC,9KWW1B,12XGVA,1,0,0,0

Enjoyed the ending of the Trent Rockets v London Spirit match. The Overton brothers facing each other for the last 5 balls. Craig came out on top.

A good crowd on at OT. Don’t know how it compares with last year. Everyone got a free shirt. It looked like the Nou Camp. We have a good side. Strong batting and bowling. Pity about the weather early on and the cancellation of the women’s match. I spoke to loads of people with families and they loved it.

A good day today at the football and hopefully a good day tomorrow at the cricket.

Our new Prime Minister.
Yep. That’s where I read it. Online. Maybe we were all left wing back then until we grew up and saw the reality of life. 😉 Best had a couple of clubs in Manchester back then. I used to frequent Oscar’s on Cooper St. George occasionally stood on the door and welcomed us in. Can you imagine that today? The greatest footballer in history (in my very humble opinion) shaking hands with punters on a night out. Great days. Who’d have known back then that me and thee would be criticised for highlighting the hypocrisy of the left. 🤷♂️
