I think everybody (apart from the obvious person) would agree.

I suppose the argument (from those who know a lot better than I do) would be that pensions are tax deferred. During your working life, you would typically have received tax relief on the contributions. So, some of your income wasn't taxed at the time, but is simply being taxed/taken later in life. Also, even in retirement, you still benefit from public services (NHS, State Pension, Social Care, Infrastructure etc) - you're still using them even though you've retired. It's far from a perfect system, I'd much rather....especially as I get closer to that age, that Pensions were totally tax exempt 😁
