Just a recommendation which I've mentioned before

Watch Bitter Lake by Adam Curtis

It's the closest explanation I've seen to our relatively modern fucked up world

I enjoyed that hypernormalisation documentary he did.

Although it just seems like normal day to day business nowadays.

I'll give that one a try mate. I've heard you mention it a few times now.

Another one

Done by the Islamist sympathising BBC though😉

Hard going to watch the way they separate the mother from her baby. A completely fucked up regime. I hope they crumble and those involved in these camps are brought to a grim justice. But it's never that simple.

In Bitter Lake, 14 mins to 16 mins 44, is the closest truth, we, whether it's left, right or centrist will ever know, though it does expand later as to where the oil money went, what it founded, and why we're talking about Iran now.

I've a fair few Iranian friends, everyone left when that happened in the late 70's, absolutely lovely people.

I wish the Iranian people the very best in their modern revolution and stand by them 🇮🇷

Aye, Seen that mate.

The current protests seem totally different from the others. The social media blackout from the authorities there emphasises this.

Last time I saw an entire nation having TV coverage blocked was Afghanistan.....I think it was the TellyBan 😉

It's seriously very good mate, his best yet by far. You'll need to watch it a few times, I was rewinding it quite often to pick up on things 👍

Sorry - I refuse to watch anything in the BBC! 😉

Out of curiosity. What media outlet or news source do you watch?

I don't routinely watch any channel in particular. I tend to flick through the channels but it's the same shite on all of them only with a different spin. I just want the actual news. I don't need 24 hours speculation and opinion on it as well. It's no good for my mental health as these things play on my mind. Doom scrolling and that. That's why I sometimes disappear from here for a week or so too. Although nobody seems to notice 😭😁

I subscribe to this for reading. It's about a fiver a month but very good and gives a range of opinions.

But yeah - I'm finding it so bleak at the moment I just try and read a book 😁

How about you?

I'm not like you I don't discriminate. I read and watch, from all viewpoints and spectrums, as much as I can, or want to. We are all brainwashed to some extent. But unlike some I try not to gerrymander my news intake.

You don't watch the BBC. I get that. You sort the wheat from the chaff. I get that even more. What's not to understand?

I DO watch the BBC!

I was taking the piss with Miami because he posted a link from the BBC.

The (admittedly pretty poor) joke being that those who lean to the right politically tend to say the BBC is politically biased and not to be trusted.

Are we on the same page? 😁

Fair enough. I didn't realise it was a part of a larger chat with MW and that your reply, where I came in at, was laced with sarcasm. I took it on face value. Anyway, I forgive you 😁

Pretty big Iranian gathering on St Peters Square today loads of old school flags being flown. As usual some prick had rocked up to cause trouble waving US and Israeli flags.

Glad to see the wheels are in motion to move Iran back to it's more secular days.

Amen to that. Knew an Iranian at my old place of work, cracking fella. That said, I also worked with an Iraqi when in NL and he was ace too, they both had a wicked sense of humour .

Never worked with Iranians. Probably one of the few nationalities from that area I've missed in my travels. Spent 10yrs working with an Iraqi fella, seemed quite a normal bloke til I heard stories from his early years here after escaping from the 1st Gulf War. Absolute madlad.

Hang on. Wouldn't they (in very general terms) both want the same thing?

Possibly but the focus should be on the Iranian cause no need for other stuff to come into it.
