The only instance in which your vote won't be counted is if you fail to include the signed declaration. If you've got anything else wrong (i.e. put the ballot paper in the wrong envelope), they'll just take the ballot paper out of said envelope & count it. Wacker. If you're interested. Scotland lost over 147,000 men in world war one. This was 20% of Britain's losses while only being 10% of the total British population. A good comparison would be with Australia. Both Scotland and Australia had a population of just over 5 million when the war broke out in 1914. Australia fought for the whole four years and had just under 60,000 killed, significantly less than that of Scotland.

The Grassmarket area is alright. Both day & night. Don't bother with Rose Street though, if there's more than 2 of you, you won't get in anywhere. The 3 sisters just down from the Grassmarket is ok if you like it busy & loud.
