Pile as many nettles into a container, with lid. Press them down. Fill up with water.

Put lid on, and leave outside to ferment for around 3 weeks.

Then when done, dilute portions to around 10%, and pour onto the soil.

Avoid leaves where possible, especially in bright sunshine. Watering better done in morning.

Don't worry about clay soil- it helps to retain water and has minerals.

Just need to keep adding compost to break it up- gradually making the soil finer.

I've also bought some crushed basalt, which I will add on occasions for slow release minerals over the years. Also absorbs CO2.

Sea weed meal is excellent for nitrogen and micro nutrients.

Wonder how a venison burger patty would turn out?

It's very lean almost tasteless meat that is why you need to fester it in red wine or curry it in my opinion... I batch cook the Lee Anderson way and it really holds it's body when you reheat it

If they weren’t slaughtered then they wouldn’t exist, and further arms of the economy would crumble. If anything it’s your civic duty to eat meat. And venison is bloody lovely (as are the ostrich steaks from Aldi for those of us who can’t afford Ocado)

I work with "British" people who have never eaten Pheasant, Partridge, Rabbit or Venison... I take parcels into the office telling them how to cook it... "35 mins in a 180 oven"  and so on (and watch out for the bits of lead)

PS... Ocado compare your shop with Tesco and refund the difference

Can't be doing with Pheasant.

Think I may have tried partridge as part of a mixed game pack- that was a mistake because of different cooking rates.

Had rabbit many years ago as a teen in France. Seemed OK but didn't know what it was until after I'd had it.

Had it a few years back from a butcher and it was rank. No great desire to have it again.

My missus complains about the "smelly bags of meat" I bring home... "Smell is FLAVOUR" I tell her... chuck it all into a big stew pot and it'll keep you farting for days...  one of the local stalkers drops me a venison liver sometimes... brilliant.

A local butcher makes up rolls of pheasant breast with stuffing in the middle and bacon outside. I'll get a coupe over to you when the season comes around and you'll change your mind

OK.

Can't be any worse than what I've had before.

Once had a hare, but when we came to cook it, the smell was horrendous. Can't remember if we had frozen it beforehand, or was fresh, but it went straight into the green bin.

No way were we taking any chances.

Never eaten a Hare... looks like it could be a bit stringy 🙂

Last time I went to see Loft over there the woman who used to clean from them used to make me Shakshuka for breakfast. It was 70odd degrees at breakfast time.

God job she only came in twice a week.

I would kill for one of my grandmothers rabbit pies. Absolutely sensational. The missus goes into a meltdown if I ever mention this. Paps on about 'fwuffy bunny wabbits - how could you'. She didn't even like the "what's taters precious?' scene in LOTR because they were boiling a couple of coneys.

'Coneys' - interesting theory on the word being replaced by rabbit. Coney was also used as another word for cunt (along with about a thousand other words!). You might see coney more often in my posts from here on in ;)

Game birds (not human females) have never really appealed. Either too dark and greasy or just taste too, well 'gamey' for me.

Had a venison meal on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh once which I recall as being superb. Never see it here although I believe it's pretty easy to find in the UK these days?

I reckon Dimron would like the kangaroo, crocodile and emu down here. Nowt to write home about in my view. Two of em taste like tough chicken to me. Witchetty grubs? If you can face a fat wriggling maggot on a plate and pop it into your gob, other than a marshmallowish texture, just tastes a bit like honey. One of the things some like to test new arrivals with down here.

Pal at college many years ago decided to set up a rabbit meat farm, reckoned he was going to sell McDonalds "Bunny-Burgers"... he got quite into it until they got a dose of Mixy and the man from the Ministry shut him down

Family tradition to have pheasant on my birthday. Back in the day we had to look out for the lead shot. Pheasant is ace if it’s not been hung too long. Well hung is absolutely rank

Had rabbit in a paella in Sitges the other week. Could barely tell the difference between that and the chicken tbh. I’m with @bolty58. My mates mum used to make an amazing rabbit stew or pie.

The ears are usually the giveaway.

I know the arguement's for breeding and they wouldn't exist blah di blah - even had my daughter's 14 year old boyfriend go through that hackneyed point. I don't want to stop anyone else or bring down British farming, but as a personal choice I'm just not sure it's for me anymore.

I had a stint at being an 18 year old vegan. Before it was trendy 😉 Had a terrible diet though & ate a lot of beige foods. Ending up bigger from what I remember.

Now I’m eating meat most days, but eat a lot of vegan /veggie meals daily too. Not many veggie meals on menus these days, must be easier for places to just do it vegan. Tofu is incredible stuff, always have a bag in the fridge.

Great recipe here - https://www.noracooks.com/teriyaki-tofu/

Biggest issue with meat is land use for me & the sheer amount of it we give over to grow animal feed. I appreciate different farms are doing different things. But we need to get that in order or we really will have no land or suitable soil left.
