FrancisFogarty Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Casino is right. I only mentioned big Frank as an aside to my Ralph Wright comment but he wasn’t Roy’s era. Quote
passmosster Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Hugh Curran was a master tactician. We were winning 2-0 at Sheffield Wednesday and got a free kick just outside their area. He took it and kicked the ball out of the ground via a tunnel. He could kick a ball. Quote

Ditto, getting emotional reading and seeing those pictures, in front of a packed Burnden. I bet he could have walked to the ground being from Farnworth, and pulling on the white shirt he really was living the dream. Quote

No doubt he’d of walked down to Burnden as an apprentice, he showed incredible loyalty to BWFC if rumours are true about the likes of Liverpool showing interest in him, when he joined the club we were still one of the leading lights in British football, he was at the club as we tumbled down the leagues, stayed loyal and was part of the climb back to the top flight, he must of been incredibly proud to lead us back to the top flight, he must of felt the pain like we all did in the early 80s as we tumbled down the leagues again. Shame he never did an autobiography, I’d of loved to of read it. Quote
Popular Post Traf Posted August 20, 2024 Popular Post Posted August 20, 2024 Roy was a pub landlord, a football coach, a business partner and a very good friend of mine over the last 35 years or so and I'll miss him. An absolute rock of a man, dead straight, you always knew where you stood with him and although the word gets bandied about far too often, Greavo was a true Bolton legend. Quote

Remember spotting Sam Allardyce and Ronnie Phillips working with a group of groundsmen( there may have been other players in the group)in walkden park around the early to mid 70s. The days when players had summer jobs. Roy may have been one of them but he’s a few years older than big Sam. Quote

There's some proper memories there. Not often you'll get such consensus these days. Speaks volumes. Quote
