Dimron Posted March 10 Posted March 10 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cgq1pwjlqq2t So how the fuck do you drive into a 30,000 tonne tanker at anchor? Quote
Whitestar Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Looks bigger than 30,000tonne I have no idea about seamanship but i have done a couple of jobs on tankers in docks and dry docks, they all seem dented to F**k. Quote
Spider Posted March 10 Posted March 10 However, unusually, this is one of just ten oil tankers enlisted in a US government programme which is designed to supply the armed forces with fuel during times of armed conflict or national emergency. It means they can be called upon by the US military at short notice but there's no indication that it was being used for these purposes when this accident happened. Quote

Id not be surprised if this was sabotage. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I would. That would mean a deliberate targeting of an anchored tanker by another vessel. That would need state sponsored terrorism or an act by a substantial group. If, as above, it's an American (part) owned vessel, then Orangu-Trump won't be very happy. Quote

Spider Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Has anyone checked the vaccination status of the captain? Quote

kent_white Posted March 10 Posted March 10 The more I learn about this - the more I'm presuming this was in some way intentional. The chances of two unmanned ships colliding at sea is already pretty small. But fully crewed and with modern equipment on board? It just seems completely implausible - or at best highly unlikely. Obviously we need to wait for an official report and explanation - but I just can't see how it's possible? Even the weather was perfect today. Quote

I’ve just asked a mate of my brothers who is a former merchant navy chap. Stopping/turning a container ship doing 15mph+ can take several miles The tanker was at anchor and he reckons maybe just didn’t appear on radar or was missed by a crew member who was busy watching porn and wanking instead. Freak accident he reckons. Quote
