Politics - Part 2

Kemi Badenoch doesn’t really need to speak in public more than once a month and she’ll do ok. In that respect, keeping her head down is proving very effective.

Sniping from the sidelines and criticising everyone clearly has merit. 🙃

This is part 2 of the Politics discussion.

Just watched a good interview with Al Carns on BBC Breakfast. He didn’t deny that we would be interested in joining a leadership race. He has been mentioned before. Burnham and Starmer could have a rival. Just me speculating.

The problem (for those not wanting Burnham parachuted in) with a third candidate is that fewer votes will be needed to win.

surely no matter how many candidates there are, if there is a Leadership challenge, Burnham pisses it anyway doesn't he?

What about Harry and Meghan?

Al Carns has no hope of winning

They don’t know what they are doing!

probably not, but he'll pull out of the running early, and put his weight behind whoever is favourite (Burnham) in order to secure a decent position in the cabinet again, probably. His resignation, is nothing more really, than an educated gamble at self preservation

There is an old saying ‘a week is a long time in politics’

I think you can reduce that down to days now. Yesterday, some had never heard of Carns. Today…..

He has been touted as an outsider in some circles, but not in any way a significant option.

Good timing though.

Top defensive minister goes first, and puts another nail into the PM's coffin.

Younger, more junior minister, follows suit and effectively announces his leadership candidacy without wielding a knife or kicking up a great deal of fuss.

Seriously, nothing surprises me these days. In the Conservative election in 2022, the three final candidates were, Penny Mordaunt, Rishi Sunak and liz Truss. Guess who won?! 😊

That was the vote of Conservative members. I have no idea how the Labour members would vote given the, speculative, candidates.

He polled 0% among Labour Party members a couple of weeks ago , a group of people who do know who he is

2 weeks ago? Ok. Do you have any info about the Labour Party members who now know who he is?

They all fall. Ours was slower but inevitable.

Just read The Second Sleep by Robert Harris. A work of fiction but a worrying foresight into what could happen within days! Stock up on the tins of beans and water.

Rapid turnover of rulers

Heavy taxation to afford massive armed forces

He might get 1% now. Either way, utterly irrelevant

Each to their own I guess. Also just finished An officer and a spy by Robert Harris. Off to the Library later to see if they have any of his books that I haven’t read.

Robert Harris has written some brilliant books.

Yep. My first was Enigma. A quick check and I’ve read 11.
