June 21Jun 21 Popular Post I was fine this morning until my sister messaged me… 9 years now. Wish the stubborn red cunt listed to me when he first fell- would’ve got a few more years out of him. This is a place to say thank you to your dad for any random shit;Thank you for taking me to Cleveleys Kitchen, the horrors of trad Irish music, not judging me when I was ill and unstable. Thank you for being the most doting grandfather- leaving memories they will cherish forever.Tears streaming again now!
June 21Jun 21 Yeah I lost my Dad a couple of years ago through COPD at the age of 66 (quit smoking if you can chaps). It's weird with me. I tend not to get emotional on particular days (birthdays, fathers days etc). It just tends to hit me at odd moments. And to be fair - I'm too distracted by the full English breakfast socks I have been thoughtfully gifted this morning to think about anything else today.Raise a glass for him today Dr F 💪
June 21Jun 21 Aye always miss him but never get maudlin. He lasted 90 years, lived through WW2 but dementia got him in the endHe was the one that got me fully invested in BWFC
June 21Jun 21 My dad got me into BWFC as a 14 year old when he turned up out of the blue and said we are going to Liverpool for the FA Cup game.He wasn't about much growing up though we grew closer in my teens but we're never really close as he was hard work.He died a few years back and will raise a glass for him today.

Posts like this make me realise it won't be forever.Took him out for breakfast this morning and it's the healthiest he's been in ages.No beer allowed today as he's got a renal exam tomorrow. If his kidney score gets any lower he will be back on a ward.
June 21Jun 21 Lost my old man ,when I was 21 he was 44 . I thought he was old,it was only as I got older and had my own kids that I realised how young he was and how much of life lay before him. He never knew me as a real adult ,we never got to share adult experiences , I never got to chew the fat with him or go to him for the advice that only a dad could give .He never got to see me or my sister become parents and he never got to meet any of his 4 grand kids .I dont really miss him because it feels almost like I never had him and apart from the night he passed the memories are fading . I just wish he could have been around a bit longer

Must have been so tough but we never knew.
June 21Jun 21 Me, not much but he's been gone nigh on 40 years now. Our daughters only recollection of him is getting grandad some celery out of the fridge.
June 21Jun 21 I always feel bad that I only really got close to my dad after mum died (2013) by which point he was already in his early 70s. Growing up we used to do a lot together - he tolerated our weekly visits to the viewing platform while the Reebok was being built - but drifted a bit in my teens and early 20s. He was great allowing my other half to move in with us when we were saving for a house, think he was glad for the company and they always used to go out for a brew and a butty when she used to only work 4 days. He died a couple of months in to the first lockdown in 2020. Always joked he was going to outlive us all because he took so many pills that nothing to get through, and ironically enough he passed when he was out for a walk just trying to keep himself healthy. Sat down on a bench, keeled over and that was that. It’s only since he’s been gone that I’ve realised how similar we were.

When she left us it also went to shite. We've tried to get the old team together but half of them just can't be arsed.

June 21Jun 21 My dad went about 25 years ago. A full blooded Scotsman with a diet to match. Loved whisky as well. His heart never stood a chance.Went suddenly, would have enjoyed the lack of pissing about with gradual deterioration

Had tea with her today to remember my dadShe’s 89 and still a force of nature. When my dad was alive she was the one who picked him up off the floor, dealt with his dementia, and ordered everyone around. Soon as he died her mobility went to ratshit and her post-polio syndrome kicked in. Sad to seeThat said, she still has all her faculties and is more than happy to put current and ex WWays posters in their place when they visit 😁
