Bolton's bin-men

Featured Replies

The council have announced that bins will be collected fortnightly in the coming months in a bid to cut the cost of refuse collection.

Am I to:

Look forward to a cut in my council tax as a consequence of only getting 50% service?

Look forward to the council sending me yet another bin in order that I may still generate as much waste as I currently do?

sympathise with bin-men for getting a 50% wage cut?

Expect none of the above?

collecting bins fortnightly, may cut the cost of refuge, but will it cut the ammount of refuge collected???

Will the binmen work twice as hard fortnightly???

toodle pip

Brixton - what will you do with the extra time off? :D

Nurse, more brave pills required!

That is a feckin disgrace.

Living on me own, the only real service I get from the council is my bin emptied, so I'm getting half the service I used to get. Great!

However, I don't create that much mess, but if I forget to put my bin out, it will be extra full when they collect it. I suspect most families can fill a wheelie bin and some more in a fortnight.

This is to cover the costs of massive pay increases in the council, scum the lot of them!

They've done it down here and I keep forgetting to wheel me bin the required 10 yards. But then if you have to have 4 weeks worth of stuff in it they wont collect it as they dont shift any whose lid is anything but shut. So its a ragging farce; never see any police (they did reluctantly venture over here when some bloke was shot dead in his house a few months back) and now only bin men once in a blue moon and only if I've positioned me wheelie bin in exactly the correct place relative to the road and with nowt sticking out of the top of it. Thats it for my ??70 a month poll tax. Feckers.

Oh sorry, I forgot - a number of colour coded recycling bins (a green box, a green sack and a red sack) accompanied by instructions for what to put in what and times for collections that are roughly equivalent to the master plans for the Normandy landings in terms of complexity and which undoubtedly cost a damn sight more to implement than any savings made by the recycling.

Thats it for my ??70 a month poll tax. Feckers.

.

I pay nearly ??100 for my poll tax and if anything is blocking their way when they turn up they wont empty the bin

:-$

I feel I must defend my fellow shitemeisters. If something is blocking their way to your bin, do you want them to hump your bin over said obstacle?

Now I'm guessing that council tax covers more than just bin collection, but if it didn't, 2 quid a week to shift as much shite as you can fit in a wheele bin is pretty good value.

Bollox - ignore that bit - I'm thinking its 100 quid a year. In fact feck em cheeky bastards.

think ??100 is a month.

i live in north yorkshire and get me bins done every week and they have managed to grasp the wheelie bit of wheelie bin and move it for me.

the woman next door is 80 odd with parkinsons her bin is up a step so they are not allowed to move hers and no chance of doing it. so i do move hers. O:)

Sorry, I should say, there are two side streets to my back street and if one of them is blocked they wont use the other one. If the council tax didn't cover anything else then ??100 per month would work out at nearly ??25 per week, might as well go downt tip

I struggle not to overload my bin each week. We generate loads of rubbish (5 of us in the house). I can see this causing a lot of grief and extra trips to the tip. I can also see some folk trying to flush stuff down the toilet or burning things in their gardens/backyards. All good stuff for the environment!

I can see a private refuse company "cleaning" up here. I wonder if the person who has made this decision is a director of some said company?

exactly, I get fcuk all from the council for me ??70 a month and indeed half the time have to end up taking the ragging stuff to the tip meself. If it saved me ??70 a month I'd gladly do that every time.

What else do I get from them - nowt! Every so often I get a leaflet in gujrati telling me about the mobile library service - thats ragging it. Church opposite keeps getting vandalised but no sign of police. The one time I've seen them in my road was when me house got burgled. Silly fucker turned up, shone his torch on me door with its caved in glass panel, pondered long and hard, shone his torch on it again, thought a bit longer , radioed for a second opinion, then finally delivered his verdict "I think this is where they gained access ". No fecking shit Sherlock!

council tax basically cover police/fire services and refuge collection, the percentages of where your money goes is on your council tax statement that you get in april.

the local council need to start balancing the books properly, they make an assesment in april every year of projected costs for their services, and should run it like any other business anywhere else in the world.

take the pen pushers etc of the equation and the prob would be solved. the bin men will no doubt have recieved an insulting pay rise in april, just as everyone else di, its not their fault, blame the dickheads at the top of the chain.

incidentally, our council tax is about ??80 amonth. we completely fill our bin every week. if i leave binbags in my garden for an extra week it will encourage rats etc, which will costs the council more in pest control.

i am all for recyling if its made easier. give me 2/3 smaller bins and i will sort my rubbish, as long as its collected. i dont drive, and cant walk into town centre/nearest supermarket with boxes of glass and piles of newspaper etc.

if they want to encourage recycling, provide a better service, or knock a bit off council tax as a reward for green-mindedness.

failing that i wont pay the percentage of my council tax for refuge collection, and will get jay to go to tip once a week.

Why are people talking of disposing of safe havens for battered women :D

It's still once a week here, but we're now getting those recycling boxes.

Now I currently take mine to Safeways to recycle it, so the new service should be useful.

However, currently filling the bin up with shit filled nappies, so if we end up going fortnightly, that's going to be one alighty hum in summer

incontinence is not a laughing matter................shit I just pissed meself again

Its all a fcuk up!

Remember when my water bill for 5 of us was less than a single bloke living in the same street! How did they work that one out? Not that I complained, but you get the idea.

Don't know what you're all moaning about, I have a wheelie bin and on average I put out one small carrier bag of rubbish each week - some weeks nothing. My cardboard gets collected for recycling once a fortnight, and every fortnight (on alternate weeks to the cardboard) the newspapers, cans & plastic bottles get collected.

I still have to take the empty bottles down to the recycling, there are two places about 400 metres away. I have to go to the tip with the green waste, but then they do turn it into compost which is free for anyone to take.

I felt that I wasn't getting enough for my council tax so rather than burning the house down to get the fire brigade out, I started reserving books from the library on-line which is marvellous. You reserve it, they deliver it to your library of choice (if it's not at the local one), they ring you up to say it's there waiting and then you just call in to pick it up. During the summer it's even easier as the lad next door has a holiday job there so he delivers books to the door and then takes them back for me :D

And regarding the water bill, in the last house, I had a meter fitted and reduced my bills by a fifth. And I still washed.

does he look like dustin hoffman?

I have a great idea.

make the f??ckers work in the afternoons instead of sitting in the f??ckin pub.

sorted.

the real reason they are doing it is because they are not meeting their agenda 21 targets, the amount of sh??te they take to landfill to you and me, so by cutting down on what they collect they cut down on what goes to landfill.

in theory this is fine, but in practice is will mean more flytipping because joe public generally cannot be arsed segregating his waste.

No, he's about 6 foot and blonde. Bit too skinny for my liking at the moment :D

My bin gets collected 0n a wednesday and by friday its full, part and parcel of having children and a wife in the house too with shitty nappies etc.

Read this last week on the BBC.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs...5_recycling.pdf

To cut a long story short, Bolton MBC comes about 370th out of 390 councils nationally for recycling. i.e facking shite.

Happy to recycle. Let's do it. Already do the bottles and papers bit. Give me a bin for my cardboard I will fill it the best I can. What about excess food? Why not give us all liquidizers and we can turn our uneaten food into mush and flush down the bog.

Agree that green waste needs dumping at the tip - in the green section.

Funnily enough, Dustbin Hoffman is a binman round our way.
