Reebok Expansion?

Featured Replies

After reading about Wigan & Bolton's stadium in a post here, i heard a couple of years ago the Reebok could be expanded slightly.

The gap at the bottom can accommodate to extra rows around the whole stadium and the corners in the upper tiers can be filled in apparently. This can increase the attendance up to around 30,000. Worth it I think for the big games where we do fill the ground and surely wouldnt cost Gartside too much pocket money to do?

there can be another tier entered. the extravagant roof can be taken off and another tier built. it is possible.

I believe that we'd lose out more from loss of advertisers from the extra rows which I think are at the front.

That may be bollocks though.

it will never happen [-X [-X

WE cant get the place full now , so whats the point.

And you can't take one part of the roof off , or the other 3 will fall down.

I think we've been through this before :-k

no point in making capacity bigger as we hardly fill it now

and for the games that we do, well, that's why they're able to get away with charging ??36/39

Until we start to fill it every game, it will stay as it is.

Until we start to fill it every game, it will stay as it is.

And have people queuing up outside

Until we start to fill it every game, it will stay as it is.

and even then it will

price will just be 'adjusted' to suit

Taking everybodies point here, I can understand where everybody is coming from but for the 5 or 6 games we may fill it (Utd, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Lpool) not reckon there's a small lack of ambition being shown?

I think with in excess of 30,000 in the stadium against the bigger clubs would be electric!

Right lets put it this way , it would cost more to put the seat in then we would get back by putting arses on them , so Bloton at this momnet in time have better things to spend the money.

we dont even fill the 28.000 now, cant see the point in spending gartsides precious money on 2000 more seats

It'll be half empty Satday, even with "slashed" prices :D With mongtards setting the prices, there's no need for more seats.

Gartside has said that they won't put extra seats in for a long time, he would rather have waiting lists for season tickets.

Plans do exist to put another 12000 seats in, apparently it would be the South Stand that would get the new tier, though I guess this would curve round onto the two sides and also include filling in those front rows.

I do think that a capacity of over 30000 would help influence new signings though.

When the Reebok was being built, i had a tour of it with the chief engineer, the possibility of expanding in the future was a question put to him, and to answer your questions -

No, another upper tier can not be added

No, the corners can not be filled in

Yes 3 rows at the bottom can be added ( easily, he said)

This would add another 3000(approx) to the capacity, but as we only fill it 3 or 4 times a season whats the point.

and underneath the stands would be nearly as bad as the jjb

And I think PG as said the same in the past

I hear the club are building a guest house on the east stand

3000 more empty seats for the media to point out..

according to phil gartside, it would cost the club ??1m per 1000 seats, to expand the Reebok. Assuming that they are filled on 6 occasions per season, this would take 6 years to break even. Is it worth it? This ??1m-??3m would probably come out of our transfer budget.

If we go over 30,000 capacity does this not open up some international games to us, or did I dream it :-k :-k

is that including the opportunity cost of now having the seats added?

simple solution to this debate would be when we play matches that could attract more fans let them bring fold up chairs to be placed around pitch.

:Bb :Bb on seats

i had the same tour with probably the same fella and was told exactly the same. it would be impossible to add another teir on one end or side because the steelwork is all linked in together.

what they could you is remove the seats on the lower tiers, but that'll never happen

The chief engineer for Birse Construction (Phil Somethin or other) Said the Stadium had been designed in such a way that it would be very simple to put 3 more rows of seats at the front, (lay the concrete stepping then just bolt the rows of seats in,adding 3000) Fat Phil (Gartside) will not do this till we are filling the Place on a regular basis. I remember he said filling in the corners of the upper tier was not possible, due to legislation on the amount of ailsles and exits required, it's just not feasable apparently (and wouldn't even add that much to the capacity)

The 3rd tier idea is not possible, because (as someone has already pointed out) the roof is the main strength of the construction, and all the steelwork is interlinked. We only average 26,000 anyway,so fcuk it.
