No backing for Sam and the signing of a released Spanish 3rd division player. I waited and waited but nothing happened and now I am totally gobmacked that we have allowed ourselves to go into this crucial phase with such a paper thin squad, 2 wins and we go into a Champions League spot FFS!! Why oh why did PG not sanction the funds for Cesar, Meite etc. Even if the cash came from next seasons budget, Meite has been a long term target. There is no risk, we are safe from relegation and guaranteed an unbudgeted top 10 finish. Enough is enough, this prudent policy which we all understand must be relaxed so that we can build on our success. All of our main competition, have strengthened whilst we are now weaker!!

when every place in the prem is worth ??500,000, its worth getting a couple of players in to make sure we finish as high as possible.

absolutely spot on Jaidi, i am incensed we have not strengthened the squad, gartside and the rest of the muppets who run our club are happy to lend money for hotels, the lofhtouse suite and other projects that directors consider assets, these projects mean nothing to the fans, yet surely players are the main asset of any club, if we take our players as assets we have Nolan worth 4 million, jussi worth 2 million, davies worth 2 million, diouf worth 4 million, obrien 1 million, hunt 1 million tal ben haim 4 million, stelios 2 million, vaz te 1 million, borgetti 1 million, thats 22 million of talent and these values are worst case scenario, these players would be easy to sell if we had financial problems, what are the lofthouse suite or a hotel worth? it is an absolute disgrace Gartside.

If we had financial problems then we wouldn't get those prices as other clubs would know we were desperate.

Also, if you sell those players because we suddenly incurr extra debt or indeed are somehow called to repay a loan in quickly, they would have to be replaced by Youth team players etc for free.

This would lead to 1, maybe 2 relegations or worse and then destroy the current business model ultimately leading to the demise of BWFC.

I'm as sick as the next man at the lack of signings, but let's not lose sight of what we have right now and what has happened to Sheff Weds, Derby and did happen to Man City etc.

Until we find a homegrown "Rooney" that we can sell for ??20m+ or get a dodgy Russian backer then I'm afraid we have peaked.

Which, I think has led to many of the "older-lot" losing faith when we're doing so well...before we had dreams and hopes of what vmight be and now we're there we've hit a glass ceiling and are limited by one thing - money.

Fully agree.....the club have been banging on about our support for the manager and the team....well they need to look closer to home. Maybe when they start to support Allardyce more, especially in the transfer market, the fans might have a little bit more faith. I am still waiting for Gartside's comments on how close we came to pulling off the signing of a major player, only for the phone lines to go down at the last minute.

Or maybe he could not get the fax out of is pocket in time :D

WTF

Went out on piss last night, expecting to see a nice new signing or two this morning. fcuk ALL. I think Sam and Kevin Nolan knew nobody was coming in thats why he had a pop through the media.

fcuk!N Lional Perez!

So we got a keeper/midfielder (but let one go, fernandes)/striker

Wheres the DM? and full back cover?

Is this the first season Sam hasn't snapped one up on the last day of the transfer window?

This is really shit. Plus Fernades has gone too leaving us even weaker. Would anyone blame Allardyce for walking?

me

he was given a 10 year contract when he was nowt

it was later improved

bwfc have given him a good living, and he's produced marvellous results

he's been allowed to spend good money on diouf and our contracts are getting longer each season

Aye, but I don't trust the potato headed fooker. Wouldn't surprise me if he uses the lack of signings to say he's taken us as far as he can and then move on.

I'd tend to agree with him as we won't get any better at all without an injection of cash - whomever is in charge, but would he purposely engineer the situation to his own benefit? He is a shifty, self-publicising b??gger after all...

Jules

Weds morning cynic

Aye but when he can get a better living and better budget elsewhere, he may decide it's time to go.

The only thing in our favour is that Sam seems to be very choosy about his next job.

there was a good few players available we could have brought in to help us secure a champions league spot, even if they were only brought in to bulk up the squad, players like Brown/Murphy/Quashie/bridge/ none of these would have cost massive money, champions league spot is worth millions, maybe the board and big sam, dont think we are ready for a champs league campaign and they maybe right but we will never have a better chance to speculate to accumulate.

the last time we 'speculated to accumilate' we bought the likes of Dean Holdsworth and look what happened.

If the money isnt there, it isnt there. We are still ??30m in debt dont forget.

If the players Sam wants are not available for sensible money then he wont waste his budget on the likes of Jardel et al again.

We have a good squad in terms of strength and depth after the Africans return shortly. Murphy / Brown / Earnshaw ect are no better than what we have. Compared to previous seasons our current squad has improved drastically and can compete for champions league.

It was not so long ago we only had 1 keeper!!! and when he was suspended / injured had to scrounge some injured yank to play in goal, or worse... Bo Hansen!! At least now we have 3 competing for the jersey.

I'm a little surprised too, but given our financial state I'd rather this happened than we spend ??6m on a Greek striker - like City have - who will probably be shit. Like Smiffs said, look what we spent money on last time. Utter shite like Deano.

Am a little surprised we weren't in for Pongolle, but then again we're relatively well off for attacking players. Murphy would be expensive and doesn't suit our style, and Bridge would have - did want in fact - a guaranteed starting spot. And almost certainly preferred to stay in London.

It's easy to say the money wasn't there but perhaps this time the right players weren't?

When we have the Africans back I believe we've got a strong squad. 21 first team players on the payroll plus Jansen.

I can see both sides of the argument is all I'm saying...but would agree that we are dangerously thin on the ground in midfield with 7 games in this 26 day spell.

If we can get through Feb intact we'll be laughing. If we don't I'll be the first to agree - we'll have missed a chance to get in the CL that in terms of our history is a very, very rare one - and we will be out of our first challenge in Europe.

That's the gamble we've taken.

Tunisia, Nigeria and Senegal have all qualified for the next round in the ANC.

Senegal going out last night would have helped. How they qualified for the next round....

Played 3 Won 1 Lost 2 Pts 3. Lucky barstards.

Also thought Jansen looked pretty decent against Arsenal so may be a very useful squad member.

As we are between 20 and 30M in the red, I'm sure the bank have a strong say in if we spend XXXM on players. It's their money and at the end of the day they want their money back.

feck me you are as bad as our board, we dont have to spend much money to greatly increase our chances, my guess is brown went for less than 1 million, murphy went for 2 million. quashie 1.2 million, there was also countless players gone out on loan who would do a job, no one wants to spend 4 million on holdsworth type players, but a little ambition now would put us with a favourites chance of gaining a CL spot, and may persuade Big Sam that we have a glimmer of ambition. ](*,) ](*,)

further more if sam goes due to lack of backing and our better players slowly drift away because of ambition, i swear i will never step foot in the reebok ever again.

signing michael brown and nigel quashie would to me not show any ambition

but it would show more ambition than signing Oscar perez, or no one.

I agree that the players that have moved this january are not what we need to improve us, but when people say we are 30 million in debt that must be rubbish that figure never goes decreases. When we got promoted in 2001 that was the same figure and we got all the tv revenue plus we spent nothing. So how on earth can it still be 30 million in the red??? We have money and just choose not to spend it on players transfer fees. I reckon Diouf cost us anything up to 5 million but they dont want people knowing we have any money.

and if doing so actually stops us getting somebody to better us rather than just to appease the fans?

I agrre unless someone improves us then why sign him?? Just splashing cash to get fans on side is the wrong thing to do. But we miss out on so many players that will improve us because our tight arsed businessmen that just happen to run a football club think small and like to plod along. Soon enough Allardyce will get bored of it and so will players like Nolan.

i wouldnt blame big sam for leaving us right now, specially when you consider the fact that west ham are out spending us, yes, i no there HUGE club, but we should atleast be able to spend a few million a season, being a premiership club n all, just p1sses me off to the the likes of west ayyyym in for good players, and there we are, signing oscar perez, wigan got melor on loan, its that fookin gartside, the tight fisted T wat. if he wants us to stay in this league, then he better start letting sam spend some serious cash, because players like oscar perez aint gonna do us no good, we are the 6th best team in the whole of england. as proved by the league finish last season, and the 6th best team in a major footballing contry like ours, should NOT be lookin in the spanish 3rd division for new players!

andone got anymore views on this??
