If we do sign Johnson would he fit in well with Borgetti. I think Johnson is quick enough to get the ball in the box early for Borgetti to strike.

Does everyone not think we've seen the last of him?

Does Andy Johnson actually pass the ball though?

He normally passes the ball to the ref just before he spots his penalty kicks. :-$

good to see sam getting the backing he deserves, but andy johnson????

there are better strikers about for ??7m in my opinion! there is talk of eidur going to blackburn for ??4m!

johnson did well in the prem last time around, but he banged in an awful lot of pens, and he didnt exactly set the championship alight last year (although i know he did have an injury).

what, like carl cort? :D

a) eidur's move is talk, he will no doubt leave for more if indeed he does

B) Eidur is not an out and out goal scorer - the best season he had for us in div one he only got 11 or so

c) we've been scratching around paying peanuts for 5 years now and not found a "goalscorer"

d) Johnson is a proven premierleague goalscorer, and England "international" - Ashton is rated as ??12M these days so I'd take Johnson for ??7M

for that money I doubt we'll do better

Don't get him, waste of cash, all this b??llocks about premiership goalscoring etc is kak, majority were penalties from his dives. However he could train well with Diouffy

all this talk about johnson being a proven premier league scorer is bollox, he did o.k.in his one PL season, but a lot of his goals were pens, also it is a lot easier in your first premier league season once you get sussed out by top defenders it becomes a different ball game, i would say johnson is similar to earnshaw, who did it in Div 1 but failed in the prem.

Disagree

For one thing Johnson had been banging them in the season before too, and this season he's been injured. His goalscoring record the last 3 years (bar this injury) is quality. And what have you lot been crying out for? A goalscorer! And now you we are linked with one you are unhappy!

He scored a few pens last year but the majority of them were goalscoring chances he'd been denied anyway.

I think the guy is worth every penny as much as Ashton. More in fact. Let's add to that he's a top pro as well, he'd be a great signing

I remain to be convinced that BWFC will spend ??7m on a player though!!!

in the prem, johnson scored 21 goals, 11 of were pens...

although this was in a struggling team, 10 goals aint a proven scorer imo, ricketts got 12 ffs!

and from what ive seen, ashton is by far the better football...

to be fair of the 11 pens he scored I think he won most of them as well by his direct approach to goal

I like the talk about Andy Johnson i think he would score goals for us but i would rather BSA bid ??5 Million for Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Why would the Building Societies Association want him?

or do you mean the British Stammering Association?

eidur is clever but too slow

we have enough slow players in our team

in the prem, johnson scored 21 goals

that says enough

even if all 21 were penalties, it shows he knows where the goal is and he knows how to score

it's all about finishing, that's what we've been missing

21 goals suggests a lad who can finish

he got 32 in 46 the season before in Div 1 which isn't a bad return either, dunno how many were penalties though

another way of looking at it is this

would you knock Davies for his efforts in the tackle, even if he commits more fouls per season than anyone else in the PL (ie he can't tackle)?

Fact is he still gets stuck in, effectively

and Andy Johnson is an effective goalscorer

Johnson is an out and out striker, he'll take on the opposition and he's not afraid to get stuck in. He's scored goals for whoever he's played for and won't need time to 'settle' like some foreigners do.

You could argue that Borgetti is the same kind of player, but he's 31 already and has only played a season in England.

Save ??7M and give The Borg another season?

I'd have the pair of them, and f*ck Heinrik off.

I can't believe some people think Johnson would be a bad buy, he's expensive but that's the way it is with young English players. He'd score goals and would benefit the team - what's the problem?

Borgetti managed 7 goals last season, and Sam obviously thought he wasn't the answer ot our goalscoring problem so he didn't play him often. Johnson would double that figure, and he wouldn't be afraid of getting his boots dirty either.

SIGN HIM UP!

PB

id like to see were johnson would play... no way would he play as a lone striker at 5'6" and i doubt he even come if he were to play on the wing...

i tell its coming, 442 and total football, its the future...

Borgetti is actually 33 this summer.

But I reckon he has a hell of a lot in his locker, and should be given more of a chance. I think he's my favourite player.

However, would Davies be anywhere near as effective should we revert to a new formation?

Other than a change of clothes, a spare pair of pumps and a couple of towels?

Aye, some deodrant and shower gel. :D

Also reported today that Morientes may be kicked out of Liverpool - reckon at 30 years old he could be a decent player for us - cost Pool ??6.3m so can't be worth more than 3 or 4 mil now after the bad time he's had in the Prem.

3 or 4 million for a 30 odd year old?

are you on glue?

He's lost what little pace he had, the stats will show that, we won't sign him. It would be like a Spanish Ian Marshall

I think Johnson would be a quality signing. H'es quick, he's young, and he can score goals at the highest level. As for the money it's good to see we finally have some, and it shows that we are finally growing (money wise) because you can be sure that we would'nt have a penny to spend if we wer'nt doing well. Him and Borgetti up front would work wonders, we would have both options of long ball or in behind, i could see it being extremely effective.
