Bolton battle for ?6m Cisse

June 22, 2007

COMMENT ON THIS STORY

BOLTON are ready to step up their ?6million battle with Marseille to sign Djibril Cisse.

Wanderers boss Sammy Lee would love to have Liverpool?s French strike ace, 25, playing alongside Nicolas Anelka and El-Hadji Diouf.

And Lee hopes to persuade his old club to let him have Cisse, who was on loan at Marseille last season, for the next campaign before finalising a deal in the summer of 2008.

If Anelka cost us ?8m then I sincerely hope we would not shell out ?6m on Cisse.

Price of signng players from English clubs.

Look at Harewood - WHU want ?5M for him!!

6m is a bargain. This boy will be emense when fully recovered

Most of the papers had him at ?8m earlier in the week, with just one at ?4m. This looks like a "lets split the difference" sort of price. Worth it in my opinion.

Cisse would be a risk at 6m IMO. The reasoning for me saying this is where would he play, especially if the 4-4-2 rumours are true.

aye but one worth taking

?6M gets you either a lad like cisse who despite what people think has a belting goal to game ratio and plenty of euro / international experience

or if you're lucky it might get you an unproven championship striker which is more of a risk for me

That brings up a good point, would people rather have C?sse for ?6M or Nugent for ?6M?

I take your point, buying any striker these days costs the earth. In that respect he offers reasonable value when you compare him to the likes of Harewood at ?5m.

However i can't see him playing up front with Anelka and it working. Maybe its just me, but i see no reason why Davies & Anelka couldn't work together as a pair upfront. Davies can do his usual hussling act freeing up Anelka from chasing loose passes and long balls. Find a pass playing midfielder to feed the Elk and you're onto a winner.

BUT if we are flogging Diouf or Anelka then i see sense in the Cisse deal.

?6m is a fair price for him imo, any less would be a bargain.

Great to see the ambition though. On top of keeping Jussi, rather than settle for 3 decent strikers, we are looking to add top quality strikers to that.

That to me says a lot about Sammy Lee. He appears to want the firepower to go out and win games by taking the initiative, rather than defending and sneaking goals from set pieces.

Should make for an exciting season. Roll on August 11th =D>

Can you say "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper", too?

Part of me is thinking like you bristol, but another part of me is saying we will not keep one of the other strikers if cisse comes, I am hoping and praying Anelka stays at least next season because for me he is absolutely top class and the best bolton striker since Worthington.

Nugnet just been on SSN, he's scored 33 in 96 for preston and got 18 in 88 for bury.

How does that add upto ?6m?!?!

That's only a goal every 3.6 games............which isn't great, especially when you look at the quality of the opposition he has been playing against

his 'goal' in Andora would have added ?1m to his price tag mind

I cannot take Nugent seriously, have you seen that run? it is like he is shitting his pants, the commentator at the under 21 gane said it was because he had short hamstrings.

cisse is awsum, maybe a lacking abit infront of goal, but his last year at liverpool he hardly played and was their top scorer, he's immense

decent yes awesome no

maybe a lacking abit infront of goal

91 in 197 club games

9 in 33 international

not bad really

He's a reasonable player yes, but I think that you're going overboard a bit. Very rarely do you hear C?sse mentioned as being "Awesome" or "Immense"

I think he has the ability to become "immense" considering how young he is and how much more room he has got for development. It's easy to forget that he's still very young as he's been around for ages, coupled with the fact that he looks 42 and is married to a 90 year old.

He might not be coming anyway...

Bolton's interest in Djibril Cisse has been confirmed by the Liverpool striker's agent Ranko Stojic.

Talk about a possible bid for the France international from Bolton has intensified recently and Stojic has revealed he has been in contact with Sammy Lee.

Cisse spent last season on loan at Marseille, who are keen to keep the former Auxerre front man at the Stade Velodrome for another season.

But Bolton have now emerged as potential rivals for his signature and Stojic is planning to discuss the 25-year-old's future with Liverpool next week.

The Reds are unlikely to be open to letting Cisse go out on loan again and reports suggest the Frenchman will cost in the region of ?5million.

"It is true that there has been some contact with Bolton," Stojic told the Manchester Evening News.

"I have met up with Sammy Lee on one occasion. He impressed me, not just as a coach, but as a person.

"He is a fantastic man. We are meeting Liverpool next week to find out what they want to do."

Despite Stojic's admission, Marseille chairman Pape Diouf remains confident of reaching a deal to sign Cisse in the next few days.

"About Djibril Cisse, the negotiations should be finished early next week," Diouf said in L'Equipe.

"We would prefer a loan but Liverpool want a definitive transfer.

"We are in talks about a transfer fee inferior to ?12million (?8m). I have a lot of hope."

I think Cisse would be an awesome signing. Hes the big name signing we need to make this year. If he can form a partnership up front with Anelka i think we could expect alot of goals next season. Also, he has european experience which is a plus. I think ?6m is a good deal. Marseille supposed be bidding ?8m though.

Cisse would be a risk at 6m IMO. The reasoning for me saying this is where would he play, especially if the 4-4-2 rumours are true.

So you are not one for having strength in depth then? I would rather have an abundance of quality strikers rather than the usual shite we have to rely on when injuries and suspensions kick in.
