Its Looking Good This Season

ok poor first 45 against the geordies but it was never going to be easy and Meite had to pull out at the last minute, so we were forced into a different defensive pairing than in training. The second half was a 1-0 win to us and a much improved performance, that must have been down to Sammy Lee I like him a lot.

2nd game was away from home and we were the best side over the 90 mins, especially in the 2nd half we battered 'em.

Fulham will be wondering how they got 3pts from that game after the barrage on their goals at the end.

Lee has took over at a difficult time just as Big Sam did. BS was in a league against weaker opposition and did the business. LS has taken over in a transition period with a lot of uncertaincy and disruption before the transfer window closes. As soon as Sept 1st comes he can concentrate knowing what players he has to work with.

heavy sesh in London yesterday, home at 5.45am ,up at 8.15am, still pissed

f*ck it I'm off for a Hair of the Dog.

Good post, those that saw much of yesterday will have been encouraged as we played well, some nice football and were v unlucky not to get a point at least. Anelka and Diouf looked the business!

we just have to keep going with the head down and our luck will change. we need to cut out the silly mistakes at the back then im sure we will start to climb the table i was encouraged by the performance last night if not the result its not as bad as some are making out.

The team that's starting games in a few weeks time will look very different from the team that is starting matches now. We've still got Braaten and Wilhelmson to come in, plus Gardner and Dzemali to come back from injury, not to mention the O'Brien's. People are quick to criticise some of the new signings but a lot of the players who look off the pace at the moment are the same players who've been struggling since January.

It's pretty obvious which posters were and weren't in attendance last night. First half was a bit of mess - hard to know how much of it was down to the rain but it can't have helped. Second half showing was much much better - I thought we actually played some of the better stuff I've seen from us in quite a while. How we didn't get at least one goal in the second half I'll never know.

Came away from the match feeling cautiously optimistic.

I think the scenario we are now in regards all the changes at the club, would have happened even under BSA. He left at a time when he knew we had been found out tactically as our 2007 results show, the physical bolton was being matched by every other prem club, the teams that should finish below us were getting big

spending new chairman and we would be spending money like we always have done very carefully. BSA knew he would have to change things and i don't think he had the heart and no longer had the desire to do it with us, as this would have ruined his managerial reputation when we finished mid to low table why he re-built us. Newcastle were a club in desperate need and just BSA's organisation and methods will produce results for them ,he also has some money to splash around and will probably lead to his appointment for england in the coming years( his dream job remember). With Sammy now at the helm these changes can be made and a mid table finish at the start of the season would have kept the majority of fans happy as will the football we are showing we are capable of playing (although it's only been seen in the last 135 mins of play), keep the faith i don't think we're in too bad a shape and the results will definitely come. As will i'm sure at bit more success.

I think that it's fair to say that Big Sam took us as far as HE could take us. I'd agree with that.

However, I'm of the opinion that a different manager could take us further. LSL has a good chance, once he's overcome the initial period, of really developing our style of play. I honestly think that he can take us further, given the solid foundation that Big Sam developed.

I'm not sure LSL could have got us to where we are but Big Sam could. But I feel that LSL can take us further than Big Sam could have done.

well said zozzy, I was very disappointed last night with the result but not our performance, Diouf was as good as he has been for a long time, Cid looks like a ball playing centre half and once he settles in I think he will be a class act, Braaten looks overweight to me but I think this lad has unbelievable potential, we played 1 ball down the line and he outpaced the defender, looks a very powerful quick striker in the making, when we get everyone fit we will be a better footballing team than we have been for 4-5 years, I would still like to see us sign a midfield powerhouse, someone who could get hold of the match and control it, keep backing the lads and we will get our reward, to those negative folks on here, put aside your petty issues and back the team/club.

i'd think it more likely braaten is just a big lad

hasn't he been playing regularly in norway?

dunno what you think about him, but he seems more of central striker to me

all based on seeing him for 45 minutes like :D

Interestingly enough that view is shared by both the Rosenborg supporters and the coach of the Norwegian national team.

think he will be a right handful, very direct and looks very strong.

Thanks to the guys who went for posting your views about last night.

Sounds a lot more encouraging than the impression I got from John Salako on Sky.

I would be more encouraged if:

Sammy was clearer and more convincing in his statements to the press.

Sammy showed an indication that he recognizes we need strong quick physical players in defence and defensive midfield to allow the attacking midfield and strikers to play their football.

Keeping the faith. If we can win our home games against Reading and Everton (I am writing off the Portsmouth game) then we will be ok going into the international break, after which we can settle the squad down and start to get a stronger structure.

Glad to see you got in OK - those men made us go away from you.

Did you not get taken for dinner by Zozzy again this time?

FOR ME , THE MIDFIELD NEEDS THE TWEEKING , I DONT THINK NOLAN,MCANN,SPEED WORKS, AND I KNOW ITS ONLY FROW WHAT I SAW ON FOOTBALL FIRST BUT IT LOOKED BETTER WHEN ALONSO CAME ON IN THE 2ND HALF - IT GIVES US A COUPLE OF GRAFTERS AND ALONSO WHO BY THE LOOKS OF IT CAN THREAD THE BALL FOR ANELKA , DIOUF . I,D LIKE TO SEE US START WITH MCANN,SPEED,ALONSO - SPEED WONT LAST THE 90 AND SO NOLAN IS THE REPLACEMENT . I ALSO THINK WE SHOULD STILL GO 4-3-3 WITH THE PLAYERS WE HAVE .

but we have scored in both games? 1 goal should always be enough to win a game of football.

as far as im concerned, we playing fine, in an attacking sense and in terms of ball retention.

we are just giving far too many free kicks away and not defending well enough.

hopefully, thats just a matter of time for cid and samuel to gel into the team.
