Scotti86 Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Just heard this on BBC manchester, not sure what to make of him really, we need a forward..... scott
BoltonWill Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 no, we need a defender 1st No we need a few defenders
HomerJay Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 No we need a few defenders why do we? gardner and hunt have been 1st choice for 5 years or so and are no worse than they were when winning games. obrien is good enough, he just needs a decent partner.
bwfcy2k Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 why do we? gardner and hunt have been 1st choice for 5 years or so and are no worse than they were when winning games. obrien is good enough, he just needs a decent partner. Agreed. Personally think Hunt has played better this season but doesn't seem to be Megson's first choice. Think J'OB has caught the 'Dean Holden bad injury and never bounce back' syndrome. Would like to see a couple of defenders because Michalik needs to go IMO. Not good enough
Zico Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 aye, with Meite too we'd have a reasonable look to our defence again IF we sign steinson, talyor and this swede we've been linked with I'll start to regain some of the optimism that was shattered yesterday
cbwfcd Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 (edited) Official Eredivisie site says its a done deal http://www.eredivisie.nl/subpage.aspx?l1=1...9746&type=1 Steinsson for three years to ball barrel 15 January 2008 the transfer of Gr?tar Steinsson van AZ to ball barrel Wanderers has been wound up. "this is a terrible chance", thus the IJslandse rechtsback Tuesday in the telegraph. Five years suffered I came here already on training period. Then I was not well enough, now, however. I have already taken farewell of the players and staff of AZ. I come rapidly to Alkmaar thank the fans. ball barrel pays approximately four millions euro for Steinsson, which agreed a contract for three years to an option for still a season. The rechtsback, who received a lot of attention at AZ in November contract still its extended up to 2012, last summer also already of Middlesbrough. It'll be on the official website next week! tylswhite Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 How long have we been called ball barrell wanderers?
Rembrandt Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 why do we? gardner and hunt have been 1st choice for 5 years or so and are no worse than they were when winning games. obrien is good enough, he just needs a decent partner. One central defender to take Meite's place in his absence. Other defenders to cover for Hunt & Gardner & centre-backs ...... unless you're counting on Joey O'B, Samuel, Michalik & Fojut.
HomerJay Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 i dont beleive we need cover, need players to make a difference, now. you should never sign a single player worse than you already have imo.

scoobydoo Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 ?3m for a full back seems a lot of money to me. better than letting gartside nab it as he will with any more left on february 1st !
Nowack Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 ?3m for a full back seems a lot of money to me. I remember thinking the same when Robbie Elliot signed.
enzo gambaro Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 ?3m for a full back seems a lot of money to me. I would have thought that would depend on the full back. ?3m is a lot for a striker if you're signing Danny North from Grimsby.
Zico Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 ?3m for a full back seems a lot of money to me. Ashley Cole and Palao Ferreria were expensive full backs am guessing/presuming/hoping this guy has been brought in for his versatility and Megson intends on putting him in the middle
YATESY Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 any truth in the rumour that he would have signed 5 years ago but as a trialist, there was nothing in it for Sam and Craig - so we let him go?
BossHog Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 "He took himself off to Switzerland and lived in a garage and that shows he has a fantastic attitude." "I left home at 16 and lived in a garage for two and a half years," said the former Young Boys of Berne star." This is why we signed him, cheap to house!
Rembrandt Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 i dont beleive we need cover, need players to make a difference, now. you should never sign a single player worse than you already have imo. Not entirely correct, Homer. Remember we have two injury-prone full-backs. If Hunt puts his shoulder out again, or Gardner's knee(s) go again, in training on 1st Feb then we'd be left with the players that few on here rate. So where would that leave us for the rest of the season. Doesn't bear thinking about. Cover for them might not be top priority, but it's still up there as a glaring need.
YATESY Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Are we predicting we are paying ?3.5M on 'cover' for right back? This lad will be straight in the team for Saturday. Megson has proved with Cohan that he doesn't believe in this slow drip-feed process on FSA.

Megson has proved with Cohan that he doesn't believe in this slow drip-feed process on FSA. He has also hinted with his selections that O'Brien could have a role in midfield. I'm hoping his superior footballing brain has spotteed something in Cohen that I havent yet.
tylswhite Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I reckon he will play centre half with A'OB at least until Meite is back then he will probably switch across to right back.
