But some of those who died were England internationals so perhaps the FA wanted to remember them.

Those individuals and their famlies left behind get all my sympathy and respect. It was a tragedy.

If I were there I would be silent, though it is likely that some Wanderers fans wouldn't be. I would respect their right to not be silent.

 

Unfortunately "Munich" isn't about the respect of those who died, it's become a focus of a justifiable (IMO) hatred of Man Utd, indeed more correctly of the fans, although I think that the club has also played it's part.

I think there's a big difference between what happens at the game at OT that is chosen to commemorate the event, and the idea that it should have been extended to an England game. Obviously it should be marked at OT and indeed if I was there on the day I would respect it. But why on Earth would England mark it? That's what's started the fuss.

It's not enough just to say there were England internationals involved. Well let's suppose the plentiful England players that Bolton had in the late 50s had died in an ice-induced coach crash back from a winter mid-week game somewhere, would they now get their 50th anniversary marked at an England game? Would they fućk.

And to be honest I think anything more than a simple remembrance before the appropriate United game is actually an insult to families of those that died. It implies that a collective grief can be felt by people with no real idea who those in question were. Families may still mourn - but that doesn't mean a "Basingstoke Red" can jump in on the act.

Seems simple enough to me. At OT you'd respect it as a matter of simple human decency. It would still stick in my craw a little due to the paddys, Essex JCL's and Satans Basingstoke Reds being part of it but then again, England hero Bobby Charlton will be there and that's a good enough reason to show respect for me.

 

At Wembley though, completely different. Those coonts and their Argentina chants etc. should have no recognition whatsoever from our national set up. None. I would boo my b0llocks off.

You are wrong there bd, when we were there for the 40th, it was actually on the 6th Feb, you could have heard a pin drop, the Manure fans in K stand next to us even applauded the Wanderers fans for their respect. I think (Sir) Nat played a huge part in ensuring the silence when he laid a wreath on the pitch with Bobby Charlton
