Why do you watch Bolton?

 

To enjoy the holy grail of glorious,free flowing,cosmopolitan football that is the Premier league.

 

Or because it's a chance to spend your free time and hard earned coin with other like minded piss heads such as your self,travelling the country and continent experiencing things that will live with you till your dying?

 

Apart from the obvious sentimentality of your childhood dreams of watching us in Europe,i can honestly say that nothing in the Reebok era has come close to the memories of watching the whites in the bad old days of the 80's and early 90's.

 

How many of you compare the division we're in to your enjoyment of being a Bolton fan?

asked myself this many times.....and the answer is...........i don't know

 

i miss the 80's and burnden park,just like i miss my youth.

 

whatever division we are in,i will continue to go,i feel the club is part of me and i am part of the club.

Sums it up nicely for most of us I suspect. My influence to follow the whites came from my grandfather and father. My grandparents used to get teary eyed talking about the Burnden disaster as he was on the Embankment that day and my grandmother was on Bolton Market. The word went round the market and sparked panic amongst the women, many of who hot footed it down to Burnden to see if their husband was OK. Apparently, my grandother skriked the whole way and was unconsolable until she'd made the bus trip home to Tonge Moor where he was sat waiting for her with a cup of tea and a Park Drive

On top of that, my Dad and grandfather would puff out their chests with pride when talking about the exploits of Nat; Ray Westwood, Willie Moir etc. and their recollections of 1958 at Wembley would often cause a tear of pride.

All this had a great influence on me and I thowt 'I'm having some of this if it can move people so much'. Result, lifelong obsession and trips half way round the fecking globe to Skopje and Madrid

 

I like to think my son has caught the bug from me for similar reasons.

If I decide not to go to a certain away game - I walk around like

a bear with a sore head. I am always thinking I could still make it, right up until

the point that you can't.

I still get nervous before most games and the disappointment of not winning ruins a

weekend or rest of the week and you pine for the next game.

 

Its like a drug, its an addiction, if I didn't watch football what else would I do ?

sense of pride you get, your club and no one can take that away from you.

the hope that this week will be better than the last. it's not the big games that make it, it's the sheff utds away, mooching around town, jumping on a train, falling on your arse in a frozen station, your mate opening a taxi door whilst doing 40 to shout to col and chris grundy, getting trolleyed, and seeing the whites dish up another unpredictable result, being chased around sheffield, SINGING FOR 90 MINS

 

being the one different to your mates, going out and not knowing what will happen next, where you will go, being spontaneous, being amazed at why wkd tastes like tizer , sticking two fingers up to the 'big boys' revelling in as much glory as defeat, cup runs, upsets- nothing is as sweet

 

doing all of the above and getting up on a sunday to tell the tale

 

 

the best days are the ones that are not planned, maybe thats what i miss, but i hope to emulate this everytime i go

Not too sure but since that night i came home from school 30 odd years ago and dad took me

 

to the St mirren game at Burnden,i have been hooked.

 

I still get a feeling of pride when they come on to the pitch.

 

Once that goes i might stop going untill then,

Similar to you, Bolty. Dad took me as a 5yo, sat me on a barrier near the back of the Lever End, and I've been going ever since.

He reckoned his dad used to go to Pikes Lane, pre-Burnden. Dad could quote the 1923 team until he died in his 90s. And now 2 later generations of the family (30s & teens) are following in the family tradition. It's the way it is. Simple as.

The highlight of Barnet's pre-season was a wet Tuesday evening at Ebbsfleet FC

Cause the lad loves it, doesn't matter what I think anymore, I'm an old git.

I go because i like having a few beers with my mates and enjoying the day out. Its hard to stop going when you have been going for a while. I must admit though it has been a little tough this season to keep going

thank god for football i still think maybe i can make it to the match when im over here in france, its evan worse when i dont no the score untill a few hours after the game

I have posted on here this week and many other times saying I will not renew my season ticket next season. But guess what? I fooking well will renew cos the club is in my blood. My first game was Boxing Day 1977 at home to Notts County in the Lever End when it was a standing terrace. I must admit I enjoyed it more in the lower divisions. We used to have an awesome away support in the lower divisions. We would regularly take a few thousand to away trips. You could just decide on the Friday night in the alehouse if you were going the next day and more often than that you did and so did everybody else.

yes you could decide friday night and sometimes we did take thousands away, but for everyone that we took thousands I can tell you there were 10 times more where we struggled to take 100.
