Chorley

Featured Replies

The artist formerly known as Gumbo has very recently moved his gary nevillecot to little old Chorley and to celebrate there's a few of us going out "on the town" on Friday.

So, does anyone know - is it the inbred backwater that I imagine or are there decent pubs, slags etc?

Thanking you

Yes it is the inbred backwater that you imagine!

However there are a couple of half decent pubs. Sir Henry Tate is defiantly the best, like the one in Bolton but new. Market Tavern and the Prince of Wales are pretty close and aren't too bad. If you want to see some tit N' ass then you'll be wanting to go into the George or the White Hart.

The Swan with Two Necks is a really good pub but shut down for a refurbishment at the minute. 15's tries to be a bit classy and so is a bit quiet these days. ID is full of a few of the local 'characters' and its pretty cheap.

Watch out of two-for-one or some other deal that most pubs seem to have. I'm sure if you ask a local you'd be pointed in the right direction.

I'd say the Henry Tate was shite. It's a Wetherspoons pub with (when I went anyway) an absolute tosh DJ & dance music on a Friday night.

If The Swan is shut, I wouldn't bother.

Couple of decent restaurants which piss all over anything in Bolton town centre but doubt Jules' mob want that.

Well we're going - no choice over that :pardon:

Had an afternoon sesh round Chorley over Xmas and quite enjoyed it.

Couple of good pubs by the Railway line (come out the station and under the subway and you are there)

One of em is a CAMRA pub so full of wooly jumpers and beards but great selection of ales.

I suppose a Friday night will bring out a younger crowd though.

The Railway is just under the subway and the Malt N' Hops is the real ale one. The latter is a really good local. The Fox and Grapes ain't too bad either.

Jesus Christ, what an odd place - I think Macedonia was more up to date.

There were 7 of us out, all about 30, normal(ish) blokes and I've never felt so out of place - every pub we went into, everyone stopped and looked at us - it was like Royston Vasey, or in real life New Mills if anyone's ever ventured there.

Everyone we came across was either 17 years old, wanting to be some sort of gangster or an EMO kid with spray on jeans, or at the other end of the spectrum there were groups of 40 & 50yr old married women out grabbing anyone they could.

Chorley = the end of the earth

I did try to warn you

Ah well, you came back alive so that's something!

We went there after the match once after missing our train, fcuking hell, there were 16 kids sat in pubs feeding their newborn babies and smoking Woodbines, surrounded by lads would would look unfashionable even in Poland. The land that time forgot.

maybe pop into Abyss if thats still there near the Tut and Shive

Thats the place for the 30 somethings :yahoo:
