confidence

even when he was full of confidence, and being busy, he never did overly much.

headless chicken is his best description

Not been the same since Anelka went- works hard but tries to do too much- can you blame him when those around you are pants!

you did...

when he first arrived he had the confidence and all the makings of another Gerrard...

however playing under a manager who should be managing Eagley will not enhance his ability....

I wouldn't be surprised to see him blossom into a cracking midfielder when he matures.....obviously at another club...or even back at Liverpool.

I was delighted when he first got into the side because it looked like we had a good young midfielder who ran all day and always looked to play the easy ball.

But he's a central midfielder and Megson has played him out wide since the new year and it hasn't worked for him.

As Homer said, confidence looks low, not just on him though, most of the team are the same.

really??

i thought initially that his commitment to going forward and his decent passing...if playing with quality players around him to enhance is career would make him into a similar player...

although granted i don't see as much of him as others...

but we have definately ruined him.

i think he's a busy little player,

to be fair to him he's way too inexperienced to take on the responsibility of running the game, yet often we've asked him to do it

not the lads fault

id agree he'll have had a decent career, but im thinking blackpool more than liverpool

Agree with bobbers, far from the finished article, but will play in a better team than ours

agree,

he at least looked positive at times,

Young players like him, who obviously have quality, thrive on playing alongside far more established 'superstars'.

There is less pressure to produce the goods, hence they go about their business without actually having to crack any pots.

Lo and behold, before you know it, they are pulling up roots and looking top drawer.

We put him alongside the likes of McCann who is a fckuing pub league player at best.

exactly, Guthrie should have had a nice introduction to the premier league maybe 15/20 full games and 15-20 bit part performances, but because we have a midfield who should be playing at combination level the lad has had to carry our midfield for most of the season, Ideally I would love to sign him and build a team around cahill and guthrie, it is more likely that our board will penny pinch and build the club around Andy Obrien and Mcann.

When was he a world beater?

He ran around a lot, still does. Not a good player sadly

Mounts, I think that's pretty much guaranteed.

I would say it has been coached out of him......but then I wonder if we have a coach?

It doesn't really matter.

He won't be here next season, he'll be back at Liverpool or loaned out to another Prem club.

He is a good player.

When he had someone that could do something from his work / effort it helps

people notice him. (Anelka)

As soon as that end product is taken away - he becomes ordinary as nothing he does

seems to work.

Issac is right - for the immediacy we've certainly "ruined" him.

It's certainly not purposeful, but I think it's down to our situation rather than "coaching it out of him".

We're desperate, have no confidence, no quality, no movement - all the things a young kid coming through needs to see in his colleagues - otherwise it's too easy to get dragged down.

Shame really, he will make it in the Prem somewhere.

I would say it has been coached out of him......but then I wonder if we have a coach?

How do you think they get to away matches?

One of the most overrated players for many a year.

A lot of the JCL crew fell for him but as already stated - what has he done? No goals, can't cross the ball beyond the first defender and runs around like the headless chicken.

He does show signs of being a good player but he has been one of the worst effected by this horrendous season.

Fully agree

I will be surprised if Guthrie has a career at Premier League level.

A class below youngsters like Jason Mcateer,Alan Thompson,Alan Stubbs and even Kevin Nolan.

I believe he'll have a career in the top flight and I think he'll be better than all the above.

Only time will tell

DISAGREE , HE,S LIKE A NEW NICKY BROOKMAN - I REMEMBER HIS FIRST GAME - CLASS , IT ALL WENT DOWNHILL FROM THERE !!

I've said as much on another earlier discussion on Guthrie.

his final ball is is biggest weakness,

id still have him in the midfield before joey o'brien and tamir cohen.
