jimmyjoojar Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 (edited) It seems Gartside has let slip in an interview in Oman that we are close to wrapping up a deal for a striker. In excess of the ?8m we paid for Anelka....This is the back page of the BN I do hope this isn't another "fax-like" comment! Edited June 20, 2008 by jimmyjoojar

Zlatan Ibrahimovic played shocking for Sweden for near on 3 years without a goal, is he shite too? Edited June 20, 2008 by jimmyjoojar

magic legs Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I think i'd wear my keyboard out typing out the names of players who perform week in week out in the Prem but regulalry disappoint in big tournaments. If Megson has had Elmander watched and received good reports and we could get him for ?5m, I would not be disappointed. He looks a bit like he could be a quicker and better finishing version of Kevin Davies.
LeggyMountbatten Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 It must be season ticket renewal time again...

I wouldn't have Elmander either from what I've seen, maybe i'm a little pessimistic this closed season after being so chuffed with Wilhelmsson and Braaten before last season! Youtube lies!

Youtube lies! Elmander has definite promise, though he hasn't sparkled for Sweden this summer. But who did in that team. The lad seems to be a decent finisher, good in the air and mobile. So he'd certainly be an improvement on what we have at present...But whos to say the player in question is Elmander anyway.
NZtrotter Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 is this the same tribe that was slagging off the signing of Cahill ? Probably. were going to lose Diouf (if anyone wants him),weve let stelios go, so that leaves us with Vaz Te, Davies, and basically friggin no one, and your having a go at the club for "allegedly' trying to spend some money on a new striker. ? Piss off.Knobs.
Gaz Nt Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 But whos to say the player in question is Elmander anyway. It's Bafetimbi Gomis. FACT ITK

Piss off.Knobs. Intelligent bloke! Not sure why you've mentioned Cahill? No one's having a go at the club, more weighing up if the money would be better spent elsewhere, in my opinion it would be. Elmander would bring us 8-10 goals which is okay, however for the money we'd probably spend on him I'd like a 15 goal return. Saha could definitely fit that bill, he's continually injured so can't see it happening and it'd be a massive risk. And yes we definitely need to keep Diouf, he's one of our only flair / creative players!

Exactly what I think, i just couldnt be arsed typing it, For the record, I was actually applauding the signing of Cahill!!!
NZtrotter Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I mention Cahill because at the time the shit sent at megson was in full flow, and this was seen as another reason to burn him at the stake, it just so happens that he's not a bad player. Dont get me wrong, I slagged megson off too, but i wont slag him off for trying to sign creative players either in midfield or upfront.

Does anyone know that we're definitely trying to sign Elmander (or anyone else for that matter?), no other than Megson and Gartside! It's all paper speculation and 'man in the pub' rumours! Like I said, any move for Elmander would probably take up a large proportion of our transfer fund, the money is needed on an out and out goal scorer IMO.
Tyler Durden Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Elmander would bring us 8-10 goals which is okay Based on what exactly? And yes we definitely need to keep Diouf Nothing to do with BWFC - if the player wants to go then we have to get shut, he's enough trouble when he's fookin happy!
dci_bwfc Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Based on what exactly? The fact he scores 10+ goals a season for Toulouse in France? I know that doesn't guarantee anything in the Premiership, however it's the only thing I can base that assumption on.

dci_bwfc Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Nicolas Anelka scored 10 in 40 for PSG (in France) You can't use stats like that? Didier Drogba scored plenty for Marseille (in France, to be patronising also) and then has continued for Chelsea too.
dci_bwfc Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 You can't use stats like that? Didier Drogba scored plenty for Marseille (in France, to be patronising also) and then has continued for Chelsea too. See, my comment is completely pointless too!
Tyler Durden Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 You can't use stats like that Yes I can. you said Elmander would score 8-10 goals a year in England cus he only scored 10 in France. Anelka scored 10 in France, scored 20+ in 50 games for us. therefore, just cus Elmander scored 10 goals in france doesn't mean he'd not score more in England. It doesn't mean he would score more, but doesn't mean he wouldnt either - therefore basing your assumption on that means nothing.
Tombwfc Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Lets just be honest, nobody has a ragging clue if Elmander is any good. If you were basing who we bought on how well they do in European Championships, you'd class Milan Baros as one of the top strikers in world football. However, Megsons judgement has been pretty flawless so far, and he has seen this guy week in week out and he rates him. So if the mystery man is Elmander i'll trust Megsons decision. Of course i'd rather it be Eidur (albeit probably not at ?8mil+), but just about anyone is an improvement on what we have.
KP Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 See, my comment is completely pointless too! As have most!
Electric Gretar Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 It's Bafetimbi Gomis. FACT ITK Gomis signs new deal at St Etienne Bafetimbi Gomis has signed a contract extension at Ligue 1 side St Etienne to end speculation about a move to the Premier League. The 22-year-old striker had been linked with a number of top clubs across Europe after an impressive season in Ligue 1. Newcastle and Arsenal were both understood to be interested while the likes of Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain were also connected. However, Gomis has signed a lucrative new four-year deal with St Etienne and he is delighted to be staying. "My priority has always been to stay at St Etienne, and it was important for me to sort out my personal situation before the start of Euro 2008," Gomis told the French press. "I hope to be able to play in the Champions League with Les Verts." Gomis, often described as the new Didier Drogba, earned his place in the France squad for Euro 2008 with two goals on his international debut against Ecuador last week.
