Is that when you go "ee, we shouldn't have paid that much for him"?

ANY ONE GOT ANY LINKS ON WHAT GARTSIDE AS SAID I DIDNT GET THE BOLTON

I would like to throw Nikola Zigic in the hat as the mystery player, it was reported several times that scouts from Bolton watched him, he played for Crvena Zvezda who we beat in the UEFA Cup he is available from Valencia who are financially in the sh*te & at 6' 7" he is a big fooker who can play up front on his own.

Oh & he likes long balls pumped up to him =D>

Or maybe his Serbian team mate Marko Pantelic from Hertha Berlin, who we apparently went for in January?

I don't wish to open old wounds, well I do actually, but what we need s a target man with a little pace and skill to take over from Davies. If this player could get close to 10 league goals then the other striker only needs to get a similar amount for us to have a decent season.

We then only need to find an averagish out and out striker, rather than some elusive world beater!!

Don't forget that Obadeyi is meant to be getting a run next season, we could already have one.

Close, but no cigar.

What we really need is 2 strikers to get 12 goals each in a 3 man attack alongside Davies. He'll win the flick-ons and the 2 strikers will score in a 4-1-2-1-2 formation as I already leaked earlier.

id be more optimistic if we went 4-1-2-1-2-1-2

id be more optimistic if we went 4-1-2-1-2-1-2

That's how Man U play: with the ref and his assistants packing the midfield.

What is the fascination people have with Davies, while I admire his workrate, the guy has completely limited ability.

Surely no one can truly believe he warrants a place for his flick-ons??? Granted, we need a similar type of player, but one that just occasionally can turns with the ball and runs at the defence pushing them back and giving them more to worry about.

Look what Villa achieved with a top quality target man and average strikers.

I honestly believe until Davies is no longer viewed as the fulcrum to the way we play we are never going to progress sufficiently.

one post and one post only on this for me

its old ground and your personal hobby horse

something i can't be arsed debating but you still seem up for it................

just how far would you consider progressing sufficiently

maybe its just me but top 8 is as good as i can see us getting

davies was good enough to be part of that in a good few seasons

davies was good enough to be part of that in a good few seasons

Fair enough casino, but while Davies plays the pressure on the rest of the team to score goals is increased.

I don't dislike the guy, I just don't understand his cult like status that prevents us from moving on and replacing him with someone better.

As this topic is regarding buying strikers can the debate not include ones that might challenge him for his place?

I still feel my point about Villa is valid, a top quality target man who can chip in with a few can be supplemented with average strikers, I think this way of playing would suit us best.

Not getting too far into the Kev D debate again. The lad works his b0llocks off; doesn't take a backward step and when on the receiving end just gets up and gets on with it.

Kind of thing Bowton folk like. Sort of reflects the spirit of Bowtoners. Works for me - first name on the teamsheet.

Kev Davies played a large part in the recent "success" we have enjoyed - ie 3 top 8 finishes :pardon:

I said on this site a couple of years back that I wasn't convinced about Davies as a striker but he holds the ball up well, provides opportunities with his flick ons, has phenominal work rate and is always our first defender.

Well worth his place for me.

we all know that it is absolute b?llshit, he is just trying to stir up a bit of a buzz and shift season ticket sales

also been thinking, these pre season friendlies, they originally planned belgium and holland, but you can guarantee they saw how man fans were keen on going as it would be cheap as chips so they scrapped them and picked out greece which is dear as f?ck to get to

that club just take the p?ss out of us

I hope its someone decent and NOT Elmander, hes shite, cant believe we got quoted 21 million in January

Bring back Eidur!!!

P.s if hes in Oman I hope hes sorting out a new contract for AAH

Looks like your wish might be true.

He is in Oman to sort out Ali's new deal!

Yes, only 7 days to go!

Just 7 days until the early purchase deadline is extended to mid-July.

Because the ticket office staff are underwhelmed?

No, to cater for folk who have been "on holiday", or are feeling the credit crunch or to satisfy overwhelming demand. :-k

Yep I hope he gets signed up, I can see us selling Jussi next summer, if AAH prives himself again.

hopefully both keepers will be on a level pegging come 1st game of the season

That was my first thought when i heard Gartsides comments. Why would he say it 7 to 10 days before? Surely he would just come out with it when this so called big signing actually happens. I doubt anyone will be fooled by him though after his last fax
