I can't believe you wrote this Mounts. I was just about to write this :good:

I travelled to this match (non-match) on supporters club coach as well. I clearly remember getting to Birmingham within touching distance of Villa Park. The coach didn't stop it just turned round and went straight back to Bolton. It was prob only about 45 minutes before kick off time.

I very rarely went on the supporters coach even in them days, I clearly remember two characters that were on the same coach as me, Graham and the bloke with the skin tight stretch jeans and denim jacket (Jed I think his name is).

Possibly ding dong doo was on as well. His dad did coach stewarding in them days.

There were some women that travelled on there every match as well.

I would guess this match to be 78/79

Was it Christmas or is my mind playing tricks?

If I remember correctly about going to Wolves - Coventry on that day it would have been 30/12/78

Can recall a game at Oldham being called off in the late 70s, mobs of lads roaming the streets looking for stray wanderers fans.

herefords was brill day out :::lol:::, anyone remeber oldham away on got posponed then we got on train went chorley happy days

Another I remember as a lad was Villa away about 1980, I thought it was over xmas, got to the A38 on supporters club coach before we heard game was called of got back to Burnden to watch Bolton reserves play Man u reserves, checked the stats site and we did not play them at xmas, anyone shed light on this game.

Went to Oldham Athletic's home game. Forgot who they were playing but we got 'outed' as Wanderers and the situation got, kind of, hairy!

Said this before Liverpool at home in late 70s early 80s. Smowed as far as I recall.

Smowed? I'm guessing it snowed as well!

Look at the above post Twiggs! Me and Colin caught the train not knowing the game was off, got mixed up with a load of shite with locals, ended up on Rochdale Rd in a pub with a decent crew of Bolton, and we all bailed on the Trans Lancs Express.

Its full of wronguns on this board.

Not one of you have said that you took advantage of the postponment to spend an afternoon with the wife shopping.

Oh no, its all about spending more time in the pubs fighting.

You sicken me.

Carlisle Utd on New Years Day back in the late 80s.

Lincoln City away a few seasons later.

Why do I remember these? Cos I was due to go to both and have never had the opportunity to visit these grounds since.

I do not know what year it was, maybe a statto knows.

Leyton Orient once held the record for the longest time since a match had been postponed on their home pitch. From what I remember I think it was about 10 seasons.

Anyway we were due to play there when the run came to an end. I remember travelling down in the heavy rain, the radio kept updating us with the latest London matches that were being called off. We parked up and went into the nearest pub to the ground about 12.15 for the 3 O Clock kick off with the news at the time that ours was the only match in London that hadn't been postponed. At 12.30 they called it off.

In the pub were some west Ham lads that had come over to find Bolton fans for a fight (like you do). We decided just to have the one pint before heading back home.

This was just after my 18th (1990) and we stayed, made friends with the West Ham lads (one was actually from Workington) and we then proceeded to have one of the best all-dayers I've ever had in London. Cracking day..... remember a pub near the ground that had a red phone box inside it. The lad from Workington ended up buying us all a load of tinnies for the journey home. Also remember that one of my mates purchased a "magazine" for the journey home and promptly jumped onto an earlier train than us...... I can only imagine that he "ripped the head off it" on the way back.

A few weeks later once the game was re-arranged for a midweek, I had no chance of going, so I nipped upstairs at my mum's and phoned the commentary line to listen to the game..... not sure how much that cost, but sure it ended 0-0!!!

30/12/78.Villa away was called off,we beat Man Utd reserves 3-0 at home

The Orient postponement was February 1990.I didn't go to that but did go the 0-0 draw when it was rearranged in March

Looking back, i think there used to be more mither at postponed games than scheduled games, just glad the Zenit game carried on, with all those vodkered up ruskies.

Certainly remember going to :-

Away

Luton midweek (called off at 7ish)

Tranmere

Crewe (grand national day and stayed in the boozer in crewe all afternoon)

Port Vale around Xmas time

Spurs (just got to the turnstile and they announced over the tannoy it was off !!)

Home

Wigan (abandoned at half time)

sheff utd at home, about 95? i'm sure i was on crutches, and hobbled across lh to find out it was off. i remember friendly against preston when the reebok was struck by lightning, and being a pissed up 15 year old, desperately trying to sober up before going home after the swindon cup game was postponed

Chesterfield (A) I'm sure it was snowed off.

We were in a van and the wipers stopped working in a blizzard, so the lunatic lad in the passenger seat kept leaning out of the window to brush the snow away with a broom whilst the driver did about 80 in the snow.

Happy Days.

We were getting ready to set off tues/wed night game as i recall. ended up going watching Blackburn at home insted :nea:

and replayed on the tuesday ?

Remember going over the tops on the tuesday and loads of snow still, but we were

lucky and hadn't set off

on the saturday.

Aye, should have been on the Saturday 8th Dec 1990.

Played it the following Tuesday and we won 4-3. Reeves and Philliskirk both scored. It was the season we lost at Old Trafford 1-0.

snowed off in about february i think

This may have already been mentioned but am sure Luton at home 94ish was called off - Wed night - went round back of Burnden terrace to watch players train on placky pitch, I remember talking to a keeper who was on loan, walton I think????

Drove up from London for that one. Was well p*ssed off. Complained to Hargreaves later that surely more notice could have been given - he bought me a drink before the next home game (in what used to be the Supporters Club once upon a time) and a description about the new stadium plans. Better than being ignored anyway.

A bit deep this, but I've never done anything I have regretted. I've done things I'm ashamed of, but its all part of a growing up process, hence why I don't really regret even the silly things. I think you have to do a few daft things to actually realise how daft they are, you understand? :pardon:

As it was, that day was nowt to do with the Nazi salutes, they've happened long before and long after.

That day was about a whole lot more, it was basically a few thousand English standing up in Dublin and telling them what we thought of their dirty murdering bastards.

Am I ashamed of it, not really. I am glad that things have moved on for the better though.

Seeing them on the pitch giving it the biggun whilst the Garda whacked fcuk out us, fcuk the queen, IRA songs etc, then watching them scatter like pigs as a few hundred English in the overspill terrace at the other end surged on was one of them things you just had to be there to appriciate. The only thing that pissed me off was the English above us ripping seats up to throw on the pitch, which got nowhere near and landed on us in the lower teir. That meant we headed to the back where the Garda had us penned in.

Granted, they didnt wreck half the main stand but all in all they gave as good as they got, believe me. If you were going back to Dun Laoghaire for the ferries then you only had the luxury of the Garda to contend with.

If you were going back to the city it was something else, I dont mind admitting that it was proper fcukin scary, anyone who was there and says otherwise is a fcukin liar, you had to be proper on your toes that night.

When the Garda stopped all the Darts they laid on for us south of river, meaning we had to get north of the river over the bridges, we were sitting ducks. Barely a taxi driver in Dublin would take an Englishman that night and every mad Irishman in the town wanted a bit of you.

It was one of those instances where you got back to your hotel bar in one piece, and laughed your bollocks off once you got there. It took us about 2 hours, in the days before mobile phones, and by fcuk it was edgy! ::::::lol::::::

1 of the reasons i still read this board.

I went to that one, but for some reason I'm sure I wasn't bothering on the Saturday.
